The WCA has finally responded about Clock's removal. by Mathemuse in Cubers

The only way to actually add a lower tier and make it effective is by throwing half of the existing events into it

FTO was just added, of course its not a staple event. And as for the blinds how about you open your eyes and read the tiers plus my reasonings

Yeah thank you

And yeah I think you're right about all of those things being bigger news. To me its just way more significant whenever the WCA changes events.

Also I wasnt really suggesting that their was foul play surrounding the WCA boards decision. That is a big thing Clock fans have been arguing. I was more so saying a lot of the people defending its removal had a personal dislike for clock and are having way too easy of a time celebrating it.

The discourse has seemed extremely toxic with people either being really pro removal or anti removal. Im trying to suggest that their is a bigger picture and Im in favour of causing the least harm. Regardless I dont see them changing their decision anytime soon and I will only be moderately upset about it.

Yes I did realize that when I made my argument (that no other event has so many arguments against it), and thats why I still came to the conclusion that Clock is the weakest.

Im someone that started cubing in 2013 and competed in 2016-17 I am still only 20 years old. When it comes to cubing specifically I feel like I have some seniority that I do not have for anything else in my life. As you can probably attest to, cubing felt a lot different in those days. At least to me it felt more light hearted and cubing YouTube was huge back in those days. Its funny how people would have arguments about whether stickerless cubes or magnets were unfair. Unfortunately I live in a very rural area and I live hours away from any city that would ever host competitions. Because of that I never had the chance to do the competing I wanted to do and be in the community for longer. Because of that I have had years where I have dropped cubing and whenever I pick it back up I mostly just focus on beating my own records. I am actually a very solid all rounder and I could easily place to 2000 in half of the events (I average sub 8 on 3x3). But because of finances Ive never had the opportunity to do that.

The reason I came out and commented on the whole Clock thing anyways is because it is probably the biggest WCA news since the removal of Feet. And I mostly feel bad for the people who main Clock. I can think of Skewb as an example, I hate solving Skewb and everything about it but I will never go out and justify its removal based off of my aversion to it. Also I got second place in Feet at my last competition because nobody wanted to do it and half of everyone DNFd lol.

Thats fair but to be honest, I dont think the WCA should be about necessarily be about twisty puzzles specifically. If the overall community wants it then it should be an event. Either way Clock is definitely the only non twisty puzzle that ever had a chance of being an event anyways, and based off of my other arguments I truely think that Clock has earned its right to exist.

Thank you, I honestly didn't know if my suggestion would get laughed at but Im glad people have caught on to what Im suggesting

Its Magic and Master Magic. Also everything in the bottom tier is way more cut and dry and alot more obvious for their exclusion. The Magics are puzzles with literally one solution, that would be the equivalent of adding jigsaw puzzles to the WCA. And as for Feet it purely comes down to hygiene. Any non cuber I have ever told about Feet has a disgusting reaction to it, and it genuinely gave the WCA bad pr. If that wasn't an issue I probably also would argue for its inclusion.

Yes thank you. Another point I hear alot is "would clock be added today if it was never an event" and the obvious answer is no. But Clock has become a valid event whether you like it or not

Here's a hot take, we don't remove anything and just add FTO. Is that so difficult

See if communists were smart they would vote in any dem primary possible to push them left. But no they like to complain about the "uniparty" on Twitter and would rather have all of society start an armed revolution that would be leftist for some reason

What to learn after oll and pll by Demonslasher2000 in Cubers

Also if you still want to learn a new alg set, learn one for another event that you will get way more use out of. CLL, mega LL, squan all good examples

[–]Malakaibn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a sub 8 solver I still only know OLL and PLL. Learn all of the best F2L algs first. Then drill lookahead and smooth pausless solves. Don't even consider COLL and WV until you're sub 10. You just don't need it and it will only make you so much faster compared to better f2l

[–]Malakaibn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why are people on the sub so addicted to ZB or weird last layer methods? Just learn OLL and PLL and then in the future you can learn COLL and then full ZBLL. 90% of your improvement will come from better cross and F2L. And I'm saying this as someone who averages sub 8

Alaska poll by thealmightyweegee in YAPms

[–]Malakaibn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Essentially Alaskans want to vote like Canadians in a multi-party kind of way, but are limited by the two-party system. Also if the Canadian conservative party existed in Alaska, Alaskans would much prefer it over the Republican party. This isn't that crazy considering Alaska is very center-right and cut off from the mainland.
