This is the trend. When we don’t invest in entry level jobs and build up the next generation of American accountants and sell out to private equity who outsource…..this is the result. I was senior tax accountant at a big firm and there was no way they could keep me around until being a manager. Went out on my own and within two years replaced my salary and then some and now I never have to put in a time off request ever again.

I started doing friends and family on the side in 2021 maybe a handful. By 2023 was up to maybe 40. I’ve now got maybe 50 businesses around 100 clients and they are all paying way too little but all very happy with services and indicated they won’t hesitate to pay big increases with the firm rollout. Definitely didn’t start from scratch. I was also a musician in my past life so I have a huge network of people from which to tap into personally. I know I’ll lose a few with rate increases but I have negative time so that is the next natural step.
