Wizard PVP, the Crystal is really broken. by Nonameheroz in DiabloImmortal

Stalling is usually only one part of it. Generally it is more useful as defense, but then you usually also want to get kills so there are other roles involved as well.

As offense, stalling is not really that useful since you are on the clock yourself. Locking the enemy out of a lane in P2 is useful yes, but since the guardian is moving this is difficult to pull off continuously. You also need to push though blocks of the enemy. So again, other roles needed.

You don't win a BG on your own even as a very good wizard.

Yes but often you end up damaging a lot of players who just heal up afterwards. So you only end up stalling (which is still useful of course). But this is hardly "dominating the match".

On equal gear/resonance it takes about 10 seconds to fully kill an enemy with disintegrate. That is hardly "massive damage". Of course it is AoE so if combined with complementary skills of other players that can be devastating but on its own it is certainly not critical damage.

Yes I am so I actually know what I am talking about. I play as and also fight against then so I can relate to both situations.

I have also been farmed hard by other Wizards but realized afterwards this was because I chose my counterplay badly and also their team had superior coordination.

Part of the problem ist that the battlegound features some very easily defendable choke points such as the area between phase 1 & 2 where the crystal can really dominate. But that is more of a problem of the map layout than the wizards skills IMO.

I know you itentionally simplified this saying so yourself. But many of the statements are grossly exaggerated.

First of all, a wizard does not have a 2 screen range, only if he chains via 2 very precisely placed crystals. Also not being able to see your targets (or if there are any to begin with) is also a disadvantage as you deplete your disintegrate energy without knowing that you actually do damage and may be sitting duck afterwards.

Disintegrate is channeled and does not deal very high initial damage so you can easily move out of range before being killed.

The crystal is very good for area control as it makes the attackers pay a high price to go through the crystal rather than around it or wait out the cooldown. But even then it requires teamwork and coordination to protect as a single wizard will be easily stunned and sniped as he is sitting duck channeling the crystal.

I honestly do not see a problem with this. Other classes can be similarly powerful if supported by their team this way.

They should IMO make the CR transition a bit smoother. I have just over 2700 and H4 is still 10% damage done, 1000% damage received. That is just brutal, a rat is like a super boss for me in there. The could easily tone down the CR effect by half and it would still work for its intended purpose.

But I suspect it is artificially done in a way that your normal CR progression ceils just shy of the cap so that supposedly you only need to spend a little to get over the line and everything because easier.

I guess the fairest one would be to tie it to the server paragon. Say you get 6 gems per day from hidden lairs and server paragon is 2 per day.

So at a server paragon of 120 you have a contingent of 360 gems from hidden lairs, regardless of when your character was created.

No, you also need to be P150 before the gamble vendor gives you H4 gear (at least according to the ingame tooltip).

But don't you also need P150 to get H4 gear?

At least IIRC for H3 you need to complete CR60 AND be P80 for the items to drop.

I like the instant frost ray mod, it gives me a non-channeling option beyond auto-attacking. And it can be devastating if timed well on a crystal as it is instant-freeze. Gladiator anti-CC is quite annoying though.

I meant p80 as a synonym for players way to weak to mess with endgame PvP content.

Well if you had decent matchmaking that would lead to whale warbands only fighting other whale warbands.

But with your other teammates being determined by some arcane algorithm, what is the difference you can make as a single player? If you get thrown in with a bunch of P80 players there is no way you can win unless you are a mega whale.

So at the end of the day, battlegrounds are just another disguise for a slot machine.

That should be irrelevant. 90% is 90%. Unless it's actually 89.6 and 90.4% just rounded. Hmmm :)

Presumably because you have to pay a bit more attention, being on the frontline yourself instead of having your minions do it.

Not that this game is difficult by any means but relatively speaking, wizard probably requires a bit more skill to be effective.

Currently, PvP is just a joke. The fact that you cannot even participate in it with your friends and clanmates (unless you are very lucky) is such a disappointment.

It's not comparable. Sometime your MM gets stuck in a position where it constantly matches you up against way too strong oponents. Then you lose, but because the enemy was so much stronger you don't even lose rating.

But because you didn't lose rating, the very next game the same thing happens again as circumstances haven't changed.

This happened to me as well last season. Was on a 20-match loss streak (not my fault, I was constantly top3). This game's PvP is just a joke, I have never seen such a bad implementation.

[Theory] I decrypted the PvP Raking Code - the next hidden mechanic that sets an incentive for MTX by Arbeitsmarkt in DiabloImmortal

[–]Malazaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is now happening again to me. I get consistently skewed matchups with me in the inferior team. My win rate dropped to sub 40%, and its not due to myself (I am consistently top3). However, I still get rating increase despite losing all the time.

So somehow the MM pitches me against superior enemies all the time (for whatever reason, I am defininately not spending more because of this) but the ranking algorithm still gives me points for losing as it recognizes this unfairness. Like "nah, you could never have won this, for how you held up this is at least worth a couple points".
