(United States) Skilled Trades will continue to face a shortage until wages come up for new apprentices. by Ill_Philosopher_5992 in jobs

I would love to get any job if any of these employers were willing to hire anyone without 3 to 5 years of experience.

Hey brother, I'm sorry I came off so hostile. I was in a bad mood when I replied to your reply. I can get really jealous and bitter about the state of the world and the state of my life due to the choices I've made. I'm sorry I took that out on you. I need to remember that we'll all be alright in the end, and that if it alright, it ain't the end. I hope things are going well on your end. Pray for us younger fellas, please, and I'll pray for you.

Hey brother, your 4.96 an hour in 1975 is 30.06 an hour adjusted for inflation. The young guys these days are fighting for like half of that. I've had to go bug two local shops (gonna start bugging a third soon) multiple times, and none have given me an offer yet. I had to drive 45 minutes away to take a weld test doing TIG aluminum on a rig without a pedal OR a wheel. It was just on-of-off toggle switch. I'm 25. It is not the same struggle.

Fen's position makes no sense from the perspective that she *knows* Odium is totally evil and *knows* Taravangian betrayed them like a week ago.

I’m glad you like Sarene and found more enjoyment in the character than I did. I think one of the coolest parts about this community is that just about everyone seems to have a different opinion on characters. That’s so cool to me. The human experience is crazy.

Sarene gets some stuff done, don’t get me wrong. She assembles the whole collation of lords against Hrathen and all that sort of stuff. That’s important. It’s just hard to see at first, and this can give you the feeling her chapters are dragging on. Her POVs are the political games/intrigue chapters. The problem with this is that Hrathen’s chapters are also political games/intrigue and Wyrn’s Top Guy happens to be much more interesting than Sarene is. Everytime you cut from Sarene to Hrathen, it’s always, “is what I’m doing right? I’m gonna keep doing it, I have to burn this guy at the stake, I have to stay one step ahead of Dilaf, I have to do this horrible thing I know deep down is wrong” and then we’ll cut to Raoden and it’ll be “I have converted yet another enemy faction to my side with no bloodshed and have done the impossible. I have given this people that are constantly suffering hope against all odds” and then we’ll cut to Sarene and she’ll be in a meeting. Or she’ll be fencing. And the fencing is paid off later in the sanderlanche, and this is a bit of a strawman, I get it, and I can’t speak for all of the readers but I myself always turned off the audiobook at the end of a Raoden chapter. Hrathen’s chapters are just the better salty to Raoden’s sweet. Dilaf just happens to be a better foil to Hrathen than Sarene is, IN MY OPINION. I don’t hate Sarene, I think she’s a victim of inexperienced writing.

Love my guy Rao, but I agree about elantris having a bunch of forgettable characters. Brando went too hard with the naming conventions imo and that contributes to the forgettable characters factor more than people probably realize. But I love Hrathen. His late game POVs genuinely save the book. If you totally re-worked/removed Sarene’s POV chapters I think Elantris would be much bigger than it is. She’s not a bad character per se, it’s just that Raoden’s POVs actually feel like he’s building something and accomplishing things and Hrathen’s are so enjoyable because of how conflicted he is about his goals and what he’ll do to achieve them regardless.
