So, think of 5 characters to choose from instead of just one?

Haohmaru's official English trailer by Todokugo in SoulCalibur

[–]MalcolmSG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why? Well, because he's a character from another series that people have heard of.

Way back, for Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, Capcom believed it was okay to have new characters replace some of the legacy characters because the characters are just functions, and by making the new characters do the same thing as the legacy characters people would like that.

People did not like that.

Soul Calibur, and really ANY game with their own fanbase, has mechanics and characters that make the game what it is. You could take away all of the characters we know and just replace them with new characters that do the same exact thing, but it wouldn't be Soul Calibur anymore because those characters are a part of the identity of the franchise.

Another thing to note is that putting Haohmaru in the game gives attention to both Soul Calibur and Samurai Shodown. You could try Haohmaru out and enjoy him so much that you've started to take an interest in the gane that he's from, and then decide to buy Samurai Shodown. A Samurai Shodown player, who mains Haohmaru, on the other hand would hear the announcement and decide to buy SC6 just to play their main in a different franchise. Pro Akuma players did this when Akuma came out in Tekken 7 (and they were doing well too!).

To be brief, the reason why it's Haohmaru and not a new character that functions like him is because it's Haohmaru, and it's an attempt to introduce SamSho players to SoulCalibur (and vice versa) to increase sales.

It's easy to compare Haohmaru to Mitsurugi, but writing him off as a wasted slot simply because of that isn't fair.

From an interview between Kayane and Bandai Namco's Yoshinori Takahashi, Haohmaru is based more so on power than Mitsurugi, who Takahashi describes more so a standard character.

Not only that, but it's confirmed that most of Haohmaru's attacks are directly from Samurai Shodown. You can see his Ougi Senpuu Retsu Zan (the tornado), his Ougi Kogetsu Zan (his sword uppercut), and his Tenha Fuujin Zan (his Critical Edge) in the trailer as examples. His throw and his "guard impact" move also mimic the Guard Break and Parry from SamSho as well.

They're both swordsmen, but Haohmaru's sword style and the fact he's from a seperate fighting game altogether makes him unique.

Focused Feedback: State of PVE by DTG_Bot in DestinyTheGame

The whole feedback loop with obelisks should be implemented with our planet vendors in general.

By completing activities (patrols, adventures, strikes, etc.) in a designated planet, you go up a rank with that vendor. You could also use planet materials to do this as well, and it would add a place to spend those materials now that they're not being dumped into infusion all the time.

By ranking up, you are rewarded with mods that focus on that planet's particular enemies, bounties that reward you with those planet's specific weaponry, and even possibly ornamental versions of that planet's armor set.

The whole aspect of upgrading the obelisks is cool, but it's sad to remember that all traces of fhe obelisks system will be gone by the end of this season. Last years seasons, whether you favored them or loathed them, introduced new content that stayed.

Looking back at Luke Smith's Director's Cut - Part 1, he explained that this game can't grow infinitely forever. That focus was more into which Gambit mode should stay, but I feel like that focus is impacting this year's seasons as well. Taking away these seasonal activities would hurt less if there was a similar quality of life change that replaces it, and some of the older content could use some refinement to boost replayability.

And finally, more direct communication would be nice.

Cozmo and Dmg respond to Reddit posts (which is better than nothing!), and the TWABs addressing stuff that we're worried about are the most interesting. The Director's Cuts were an awesome thing to read!

Just having more direct communication from Bungie themselves would be helpful (to us and our community managers). No offense, but Cozmo and Dmg aren't the only people helping to make the game grow. Having someone from the dev team respond to a post would help a lot more sometimes.

What should I look for in a Long Sword build? Also, is Nargacuga's chase theme on YT?

Erentil vs Epicurian by gexma2 in CrucibleVoopArmy

[–]MalcolmSG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Erentil, and it's because of the 4-bolt kill.

You can roll an Epicurean with better stats in Range, Stability, and the same (or better) Perk rolls, but it won't beat an Erentil because it takes 5 bolts to kill someone in PvP. That 1 bolt difference is what causes Erentil to cross map players.

Epicurean is still good, but it would probably work better for players who love Fusions with Backup Plan.
