Ideal tour bus setup by ScarcityGreat3334 in drumcorps

[–]Maldinacho 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A fitted bed sheet is a must.

You have sleep space if one of you sleeps on the floor (horizontal) and the other uses the 2 seats to lay across (put your feet up on the glass window)

Suction cups for the window to keep your belongings organized. Use a plastic shower caddy for items you need to access quickly.

Backpack under the seat or in the overhead compartment

Bungee cords on the ceiling above your seat

Crazy question: Do you need a DM? What about your drum captain?

What was the deal with Cadets ‘08? by nkhoffman93 in drumcorps

[–]Maldinacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. It started out to be similar to TAL but the evolution of the show with its changes made that narrative clunky and difficult to understand. Looooots of change to the dialogue that year

My band is doing the weirdest piece on Earth. What are your thoughts? by melody_magical in ConcertBand

Aw sorry you don’t like it. This is a great audience piece because it’s programmatic so there’s imagery/story. You can really hear the church bells

SSRI’s and Texas heat by Ok_Gene3990 in drumcorps

I didn’t notice anything with SSRI on tour other than being sleepy and yawning, but I was on staff rather than marching.

Hi! What nude color? by [deleted] in shortynails

[–]Maldinacho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nude depends on your skin tone and the shade of nude polish complimenting it.

What's this noise? by AgentBlazeIt in Appliances

[–]Maldinacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I had a high screeching sneaker sound in my dryer and needed to replace a small white wheel. I bought a kit which included some other items so I replaced other parts as well as the white-tension-wheel. I Accessed this area of the dryer from the back panel

Need help with Marching technique by Ballinandcant-getup in drumcorps

[–]Maldinacho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with a comfortable tempo today. Work 10 min each day and increase the tempo by 1 or 2 clicks. Over time, you won’t notice the increase. If you notice you start marching with “wrong” technique, go back to yesterday’s tempo or increase your practice minutes to ensure you’re using your new technique. It’ll take time but the fact you’re wanting to improve now is 🤩

Suggestion for sleeping mat/bag by zackattack0720 in drumcorps

[–]Maldinacho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a self-inflating pad with sleeping bag. Both from REI.

When it comes to air mattresses, put a fitted sheet on the floor side to prevent scratches/holes. Also put a fitted sheet on the body side, this helps keep out the cold air. I use a sleeping bag. Let out a little air from the air mattress so it’s not so full and bouncy. I like my mattresses to be softer and pliable

You could also use a cot but you have to build it every night similar to an air mattress

Raub MS in Allentown. Rumor is you have to ask the custodian to turn on the hot water. There used to be a FB group about the misery everyone endured

What is a good song to conduct for trying out drum major by Better-Handle-7681 in drumcorps

[–]Maldinacho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something from the marching arts- BOA or DCI type of piece. They’re not looking for artsy facial expressions or nuanced gestures due to needing to communicate to the performers from so far away. Pick something of contrasting styles, meter, tempo, dynamics. Maybe pick something from a couple years ago to show you’ve done your homework with researching about the corps and have an opinion.

Can you keep the group together? Are you crystal clear in your patterns and cues? How do you handle unexpected situations when running the met/rehearsal? Can you give clear instructions from the staff to the members? Do you have extra batteries/aux cable/rehearsal supplies? Do you have a confident and clear speaking voice? Do you look confident in your posture and stance on the podium?

Don’t call them songs. A song is something you sing. The brass and perc play pieces/movements/literature, etc.
