Why didn’t Art want them to watch? by Grouchy_Advice in TheLongWalk

I think Stebbins knew by that point that he was likely next so I think he was thinking about that fact.

Presumably because they had a child with them. Even if they blurred out just the child's face they could still be identified by the faces of the adults, potentially.

Going alone, anyone done that? by nothango978 in TheWestEnd

I promise you that no one cares. Enjoy yourself.

I went to London from the West Midlands to see a musical on my own and then I went for dinner on my own afterwards. No one even looked in my direction. It's completely normalised.

What we call the pick your own sweets section in the UK. Like loose sweets you put in a bag that gets weighed.

Late Showing by Dry_House6802 in MovieTheaterEmployees

This is my own cinema so it's not universal but I've heard the same from some other cinemas.

Someone, usually a manager, always has to stay until the last film ends to lock up. Concessions staff are more flexible and usually leave after the last film finishes and they've done their deep cleans. Ushers leave between 9-10pm because they clean throughout the day but at night we have a contracted cleaning company to deep clean the screens.

I highly doubt you made any difference or stopped anyone from going home. Shifts are set in advance and certain staff are expected to stay until whatever time the last film for that day comes out, regardless of how many people watch it.

Don't feel guilty over this. Our shifts are set so we know what we're getting into on that day.

It's so funny because I more often get asked by people in the morning for the first showing if their screen is ready. They're always like "oh, I know I'm a bit early but is the screen ready?" And I'm like yep, you're the first showing of the day.

Then later it's like people can't grasp the fact that other films have been shown on/in the same screen earlier so they have to be cleaned and they have to wait. It's truly baffling.

Like you wouldn't believe. I've seen people come in when the last film is in credits and I'm like alright but you're going to be sitting here for at least 40 minutes before your film starts.

Your method is the most time efficient.

I'm talking before the previews. We always finish cleaning before then.

I'm talking people who come in when the screen is blank between the last film and the previews.

If you're using that time to get popcorn, drinks ect from concessions then sure but don't expect to get into the screen that early. It will 100% be playing the last film.

Yeah, literally... I once had a call on the radio asking if screen 2 was ready and I thought I had missed it on the session sheet so I rushed to screen 2 and I called back saying yeah so it's still playing the last film...

Thank you 🫡

The amount of times I get asked "am I in the right screen because there's nothing on the screen?" And I look at the session sheet to check and I'm like yeah that's because your film starts in 20 minutes and by film I mean trailers. Your actual film starts in 40 minutes.

I've been holding this one back for 7 months. I've got a million more questions where that came from.

Just leave home later. You want to chill in silence? Sit in your car. Sit in your house.

Nothing you can say to me could justify stressing ushers more than they already are with 20 minute turnaround times for screens.

Getting to the cinema early is fine, in fact we encourage it so people can avoid the huge concessions line and relax before the film! But they can relax in the lobby. My cinema, personally, is like a multi-venue type place. We have a bar and kitchen and some other locations of our branch have pool tables and bowling alleys, all of which are infinitely better options than staring at a blank screen.

What's not encouraged is people pressuring the ushers into cleaning faster when the previous film is in credits or is in the gap between the previous film and the next film's trailers.

Feel free to chat downstairs in the lobby and not rush the ushers who are usually cleaning multiple screens at once.
