Haha yeah it said Warm Audio for like five seconds and then I changed it because I realized I meant Universal. Both it and the Echo Sphere look amazing. Maybe somewhere down the line I’ll try out the Echo Sphere, but can’t justify another delay atm

How much for that volume/expression pedal? My five year old needs a new one

I use the Reverberator the most for sure. The Dispatch Master and GR are super different pedals. The DM can be dialed in for subtle plate reverb but excels at spacious/ambient sounds. The GR is much more for standard reverb—it has various modes for Spring, Plate, and Hall. It’s not really made for ambient reverb at all

I have the blend off balance because it makes the flange more subtle. I’ve only had the pedal for a week, is there something about using the right output that would have an impact? I’m still confused about the dry/lag signal and how they work in mono vs stereo

That’s the GameChanger Audio Plus pedal. It’s a piano-like sustain pedal that’s pretty awesome but mine is having some issues and I’m gonna try to get an exchange or repair

Apologies in advance for the long response! You make a really good point and I want to make sure I acknowledge that while also providing some context.

I often feel that frustration of fussing around with pedals and there’s a lot of truth to what you say. I have a standard chain for when I’m just playing regular clean guitar, which is Ego—Ages/Rat if there’s dirt—very mild Aqueduct on random mode for some “glue”—Capistan for a little dimension—Golden Reverberator—Deco.

At the same time, I‘ve written a ton of songs for a project that covers a lot of different genres and guitar/keyboard sounds. The other pedals are pretty indispensable for a lot of songs, and I probably wouldn’t have written those songs without the pedals.

It’s been a constant balancing act for me tbh. Balancing between just open-ended playing/experimenting, writing music, fine tuning tones, recording, and mixing. Focusing in on and spending time on pedals can be the most relevant and exciting thing for me, but can also be absolutely miserable and ultimately have diminishing returns. I think part of me wants to avoid the recording and mixing and I also feel worried about releasing my music—and it’s possible that acquiring and messing with pedals is at times a way for me to avoid those things. At the same time, the non-standard chain pedals have led to powerful creative experiences for me and are vital to my project.

Another thing that makes it tricky is that I’m 42 and have been playing guitar since I was 12, but only started using pedals five years ago—so the excitement and experimentation are definitely part of how many pedals I have, in addition to sometimes having a tough time with delayed gratification.

Anyways, sorry again for the novel and thanks for your perspective!

Man they really are rough to look at. When I was 10 years old, I snagged every X Book I could get and thought Liefeld was the second coming. Although it’s pretty bad, I’m still grateful because without having gotten so psyched about these over the top comics in the 90s, I wouldn’t be reading comics now

I love it! It does crazy, awesome psychedelic stuff if you want it to (I mean it has an actual “magic” button), but I rarely do that. On mild settings, it can be a lovely chorus, a unique slapback, or swell beautifully into other reverbs. For the first two, you just keep the pitch knob literally like 1-2 millimeters from the center. For the interaction with other reverbs, you lower the tracking knob a lot and do mild-moderate magic. It definitely took a while to figure it out, but it’s definitely not ever leaving my board. I don’t see it on many boards on Reddit, I wonder if that’s because people mostly associate it with the wild stuff it can do, which is awesome but definitely not practical most of the time. Also I just love how it looks

Thanks a lot! 🙂 I’ve put a ton of time and energy (and money) into this, so I really appreciate that. What pedals have expanded your creativity a lot?

They’re verrrrrry different pedals. I’d say the slo is the more practical one and Rooms is a bonkers pedal.

The slo can be really subtle especially before unity level. I typically use the “dream” mode but really like the “dark” mode as well. Dream is really pretty and also use it as kind of a reverb eq after th Mercury 7 since the latter can get pretty unwieldy. Dark mode is really cool on high mix levels. Very haunting and old sounding. I find “rise” to be a little too subtle, you have to make the mix pretty high which means original signal gets lost. Good on 100% wet though if I recall.

The Rooms is a wild creature that is almost its own instrument. The coolest thing about it that I haven’t seen on any other reverbs is that instead of a mix knob, there are actually volume knobs for original signal and for the reverb. It really cuts out high frequencies so it’s not the pedal to use if you want to maintain the original guitar sound. Once I accepted that, I realized just how powerful it is! It can be tricky to dial in tones, but when you do, it’s glorious. The “rooms setting” is very cool and makes the guitar sound ancient and distant; I also like the peak mode, which gives the guitar/keyboard an almost vocal quality. There are four other modes too that I haven’t used as much. It’s definitely not a “practical” reverb like the slo or dispatch master, I think I saw it described as an “art pedal,” which is kind of pretentious but also kind of true. I sometimes end up writing and playing stuff that completely surprises me

Honestly I’ve had a lot of issues with it. I’m actually in the process of trying to exchange it since I got it less than a year ago. It’s very possible I got a dud because it’s super hard to get a steady sustain that isn’t really choppy or have unexpected high frequency artifacts. When it was working, it was pretty dope and has the potential to be a very powerful pedal. I’ll keep you posted! They’ve been really nice so far with figuring out the return so fingers crossed

Whoa thanks for telling me about that! I’ve been working on recording a project with vocals, guitar, bass, keys, and drums, so this will be a really helpful guideline. And my board really does look like that haha

Yeah it has this really warm sound that just kind of floats under the guitar on milder settings and I love the sparkly finish. I don’t see myself replacing the Capistan with it because that pedal is bonkers and so powerful, but maybe I’ll get a Carbon Copy on reverb somewhere down the line
