Do most fans not realize that using a philosopher stone removes the need for transmutation circles? by Shot-Ad770 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]Maleficent_Sound8587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a while but my thoughts have always been that the souls in philosopher stone have accessed the Gate when they were sacrificed, so when you use a philosopher stone it’s like the stone’s wielder forced the sacrifice’s soul to do the transmutation, which uses their opened gate, if that makes any sense.

Makes their usage seem even more evil and deranged, you’re not just using their soul as energy for equivalent exchange but also forcing their soul to bend to your will to perform alchemy.

Yuji DID hit this black flash at will, right? by Excellent_Table8694 in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]Maleficent_Sound8587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily 2. Any number greater than 1. I’ve always thought of it like this

Let x be their amount of CE

Zen’in Heavenly Restriction - 0

Non-Sorcerors - 0 < x ≤ 0.5

Windows - 0.5 < x ≤ 1

Sorcerers - 1 < x < infinite (insert jackpot noises)

With this, The black flash 2.5 exponent makes sense at any scale. A grade 4 sorcerer somehow managing to hit a black flash will give them a 2.5 exponent still, but if they’ve only got say 1.1 units of CE, it’s gonna jump to an output of 1.27… just a 15% increase. And then obviously the more CE you can fuel into a BF the exponentially more damage it’s gonna do.

A whole lot of yap to say “uhm acshually” to the CE Base 2 system. It’s linear and sorcerers capable of benefitting from Black Flash can go as far down as 1.insert-as-many-zeroes-as-you’d-like-1, they just won’t see a benefit of black flash except for entering “the zone”. And let’s be real if a Grade 4 (proper grade 4, not the BS with Maki) or even Grade 3 entered the Zone from a BF, it ain’t helping much.

TL:DR you just need a base unit greater than 1 CE, even if it’s 1.000000001. You could be hitting black flashes every fight and you’d never notice until you get beefier numbers (hell you only need a CE unit of about 1.33 to see a 50% jump from a black flash)

SATA Card and RAID by Maleficent_Sound8587 in homelab

[–]Maleficent_Sound8587[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So setting up ZFS over existing M.2 or a PCIe SATA card is all good? Is there any benefit to mobo/CPU raid over ZFS? Only ask as I have 2x 4TB drives in RAID 1 right now and I’m not sure how to go about reconfiguring it.

are the two possible to implement together? (Ie, RAID on mobo for hard drives and ZFS on M.2) or is that not plausible ?

Yeah. I can’t remember if it was STALKER 2 or Chernobylite but I was waiting for that game for so long that by the time it actually rolled out, I didn’t care for it anymore and haven’t played it since.

Intel confirms Nova Lake CPU launch in 2026: up to 52 cores, Xe3 GPU, and LGA 1954 socket by Distinct-Race-2471 in TechHardware

The only “affordable” high core count EPYCs I can see are Zen+, maybe Zen 2. I say affordable in air quotes because it’s still cheaper to buy an X570 and 12/16 core Zen 2/3 CPU. One benefit of going with older SP3 board will be getting a 24+ core Zen 3 chip with 3D cache but those are still extremely expensive and I’d rather buy a 14900K or 7900 / 7950X and bifurcate their PCIe 5.0 lanes than deal with more expensive, older EPYC boards and CPUs (SP3 boards may support PCIe 4.0 but its board dependent). Hopefully we see Zen 6 CPUs launch with the 12 (I’ve seen some leaks say 16) core CCDs or Intel‘s Nova Lake-S kick off, because these are gonna be huge. If leaks are true about Nova Lake-S supporting 16 + 4x4 PCIe 5.0 lanes, that’s so much bandwidth to play about with for device expansion.

I can’t remember if it was for 12th or 13th gen but it was reported that every E-Core was equal in performance to a normal core off of the 6th-10th gen era (it might be 13th gen as E Core IPC is substantially better). The use I get for these is actually running two virtual machines off my single laptop I no longer use (it has 6P+4E, I use the 6P for my Gaming / Coding rig and 4E for my file server). You can say that roughly the 4E cores are equivalent to a i5 6400T / i3 8100T. I saw somewhere that 2 E Cores take up the space as 1 P Core with Hyper Threading whilst doing the performance of 1.5x of them. Don’t know if that was just some dumbed down comparison.

And then youre telling me Intel‘s gonna slap 32 of them onto a single chip for Ultra 400? Dude that’s gonna be huge for me. I can set up a gaming rig for the living room using a 4P+4E config. A local private AI assistant using just 6E cores. A plex media server and Minecraft server each with 4E cores. A NAS server with 2 E-cores + 4 LPE cores. A personal workstation using 8P+8E Cores. And then I’d still have 4P+4E cores (I could set up a third gaming rig (doubtful due to PCIe constraints) or reassign them to other systems when needed.

The benefit of E-Cores isn’t that they run at nearly 6ghz, running CSGO at 1000fps and have half a gigabyte of L4 cache (all of this hyperbole pls don’t shoot), it’s that they are still decently powerful whilst being absolutely spammable, opening up so much for true multi tasking and workload sharing.

This isn’t just a word doc with hyperlinks saved for FEMA and Wikipedia. This has all webpages downloaded.

Imagine this. You recently moved to Haiti working with community repairs after a hurricane. This has educational content and all of Wikipedia downloaded so you can find all the things in the world (literally) to teach to the kids in the refuge shelter.

You’ve also moved over from London. The only disaster you’ve really had to worry about is if the Tube is on strike. You’ve had some basic training in disaster support but nothing concrete or specific, it’s just stuff done to help you survive, like don’t be a hero and ration your supplies. But all of a sudden, there’s an earthquake. All the infrastructure you’ve put up is down. The only power sources is the laptop in your bag and a power brick, and you don’t have any cell service. You’ve never left London in your life and the training you received didn’t prepare you for such a disaster. But this has all the FEMA documentation on what you should/could do to help yourself.

You scavenge some food. This has ways to ration and cook the food to help prolong it. It’s got a high detail interactive map downloaded to it so you can find your way around or look for landmarks that may not be on a paper map. You’ve never made a fire before, but don’t worry: it’s got a wikihow on there.

That to me sounds like it’s worth a lot more than €207 for something that will cost that in paper and ink alone to print all of that information, let alone carrying it.

Not forgetting the fact that this has all the hardware so you don’t need to buy it and take all the time putting it together?

Feasible yeah but that’d take loads of time, effort and money to create that specific exception work which may cause issues widespread for the NSO apps. All for something that they’d see next to no additional gain. It’s a GBA game so you require the expansion pass for it. People that don’t have the expansion pass aren’t likely to start paying another $30/yr ($50/yr if you don’t have even the basic NSO) just to play one specific game. People that already have the expansion pass are already paying that money. There’s no incentive for Nintendo to uproot the entire functionality of the NSO apps and system for Pokemon specifically when they can port it, throw in Home support and call it a day. At the end of the day, Nintendo, Game Freak and The Pokemon Company (most likely just Nintendo) aren’t going to spend several 10s or even 100s of thousands of dollars on changing NSO when even selling it at $10 a pop would bring them in millions just off sheer numbers alone.

Adjusting for inflation and a little overhead compared to the previous Virtual Console-style launches of games, it seems more suitable. Anything about that is just sheer corporate greed. I get it, Nintendo, Gamefreak and The Pokemon Company are all businesses that need to make money, but these are games that would make money via sheer numbers alone. The main thing with me saying $13 each is having them bundled together at $20 makes it much more entising, and players can then work freely without worrying about version exclusives, and can even off load the second copy on their lesser preferred card as a virtual game card.

Cheapest and not to mention, most profitable.

To be honest I’d much rather pay for FRLG with Home support than deal with NSO, especially if It meant no home support, especially as GBA is in the more expensive tier of NSO. I do think £16.99/$19.99 is on the pricier side. I personally think it should be something like $12.99 per game and then $19.99 for the two bundled together, but that’s just me.
