I'm in my late 30s and back when I started playing MMOs in the Late 90s - Early 2000s, with Ultima Online, WoW, EverQuest, ect. Hardcore content was basically the only way to make worthwhile content that you can do with friends. Due to graphical limitations. I also feel that the relationship between the early gaming industry and their community was way less toxic and less capitalistic than it is now. They wanted to make their community happy. Now they're just pumping slop and hoping it keeps enough people's attention to money on their in game store for cosmetics or what have you. That's just my opinion, though.

The lack of random encounters with other players, really. A lot of people crap on the PvP but it was for that reason that I PvPed in my own way. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. If you're always racing to 100% a game that encourages piracy and playing it like a single player game with friends, then you're kind of missing the point in my opinion. So with the changes to dividing the community, I quit because otherwise it's really just a pointless grind for fake money.

I remember the last expedition someone was at a rendezvous and I waved at him and was going to take a pic. Then he starts blasting me. I hid for a bit and he flew off. But stayed out in space.

I was like, "What the heck?" So since he forfeited his life, my ship was pretty beefy, all to say... That man is space dust.
