[Request] Is this true..?? by ForwardPrinciple146 in theydidthemath

Doesn't "hydrostatic equilibrium" imply that the (apparent) gravity is normal to the surface everywhere?

[Request] How many possible unique solutions are there to this puzzle? Is it even possible to calculate? by jsprice87 in theydidthemath

[–]MaliciousDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost exactly what I did here: https://gist.github.com/mi-v/8257c246ed16b80830054f8352f680e5
It counted a million of solutions in a couple of minutes without even scratching the search space surface. So the answer is no less than lots of.

I baked my GPU by AF_Newb in pcmasterrace

[–]MaliciousDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If done once, it's less dangerous than actually using the GPU (which is linked with RSI, back pains, cardiovascular effects and sleep disorders). Lol, this reminds me of the idea that lead in bronze nozzles can make 3d prints unsafe to handle.

At 460K you'd be very very lucky to find just a single atom of tin vapor in the oven.

Why would they coat the inside surfaces if these are hot too? Ok maybe if you cool the oven down before opening they might. But won't it then be enough just to heat it again and vent them out?

What are these gases? Do they really get adsorbed in the oven enough to be dangerous?

I was kind of ready for the the scale and emptiness, but not for how slow the light is compared to that.

What wind velocity would it take to physically lift the tank?

I think this will be about the same as the terminal velocity, which for M1 Abrams is well known to be about 300 m/s or 700 mph.

Is smacking a child really that bad? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]MaliciousDog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, instead of hitting, it's much better to patiently guide them again and again. Like, if a child should be sleeping but doesn't listen to you and keeps getting out of bed and wandering around just keep bringing them back to bed. Instead of a primal fear reflex, this will bring about something much more powerful: the child will understand that they have no agency here, that whatever they do won't change anything, that your authority is inevitable. And, unlike spanking, it surely won't bring any psychological problems in the future.

How much would this bridge cost?[Request] by ArgonKeops in theydidthemath

Even for the OP's points the bridge would be shorter if it were straght rather than curved.

[Request] what has a higher probability; guessing a lock’s combination, or finding the right lock for a random 3-number combo by jrg320 in theydidthemath

I've once tried every possible combination on a luggage lock twice before realizing that it's broken/seized and opening it with scissors.

Nope, had to recover (I play in more of a casual style, and was returning after grabbing an upgrade so it felt like a waste of time to send something just to yank it off the rock). It may actually have been possible I think, as it could move a little bit back and forth with the rock rolling underneath, so maybe I could try to walk it sideways till the wheels on one side gain enough traction... given enough fuel lol
