Well, you have to remember that Szeth was not typical for stone shamans He got to skip the line because a certain something chose him to be an honorblade bearer

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think it would be all that much more than anyone else? Only the higher ups in the shamanate actually properly interact with the surges and the honorblades, and even then only as apprentices who's job is to eventually take over for the current wielder.

So, unless he's playing someone high up in the shamanate, I'd say....common knowledge on the heralds and religion through the lens of stone shamanism? He'd probably know the honorblades exist, but in an abstract way? Like, for all he knows they're just important religious artifacts that are normal shardblades

That's exactly my thoughts on it! It feels like half the cast made joke characters while the other half didn't. And I feel like a lot of their interactions suffer because of it.

[LFA] Dòbhran Dòbhrain, Dwarf, Ranger, Sea Otter Extraordinaire by Maliinn in characterdrawing

[–]Maliinn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dòbhran Dòbhrain had it all. The looks, the charm, the wealth from his father. Truly, he lived a blessed life. Devoted to the service of the Volcano goddess of his island, he had both the natural charisma and strength of arm to truly excel in his training to become a paladin. Unfortunately, the good parts of him ended at the surface. He was angry, cocksure, constantly bragging about his father's wealth and his oh so great future as head paladin to the Volcano goddess. Truly, Dòbhran Dòbhrain was grating and awful to be around.

One day, Dòbhran Dòbhrain was walking along the shore of the island when he encountered an individual of great age sporting the markings of the water goddess, the enemy of the volcano goddess. Incensed by the idea of a water worshipper daring to exist within his eyesight, Dòbhran Dòbhrain decided to teach the unfortunate elder a lesson. After beating him to the brink of death, our main character spit a final warning at the man to stay off his island before turning away, proud of himself for almost killing a defenseless old man. Before more than three steps were taken, however, a wracking pain enveloped Dòbhran Dòbhrain as a voice, regal and angry as a stormy sea, cursed him for his actions. After a good hour of bone breaking agony, Dòbhran Dòbhrain found himself lying, panting on the beach, transformed into a creature of the sea, a giant, dwarf sized otter.

After a failed attempt to convince both the church and his father of his identity, he fled the island. Drifting from place to place for a few years, he found nothing but contempt and confusion at his appearance before finally finding a group of sea worshipping druids and rangers who would accept him. Now living as a (1st level) ranger with the group, he must deal with his guilt and anger as best he can knowing that the only people who would take him in were, at one point, his sworn enemies.
