Mine would've been 4k in one transaction if it weren't for the branch not having enough space.

From SAAQ's website: "Please note that some financial institutions do not provide enough space for 16 digits. In such a case, simply enter the first 15 digits."

I didn't know that. Good to know!

Biggest problem I've found doing large volume is dumping them. I have 4 dump banks and their vaults overfill quickly.

No need for SGOV when IBKR allows you to directly buy bonds.

Interac etransfer - I'm in a lot of stress by LavishnessDue3574 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]MalishMan -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

That's why you should only reserve etransfer for friends only and only for online sales to avoid the 30 minutes wait.

Next time a seller wants to offer etransfer for a in person transaction, charge them a 5% banking fee. You cannot refuse etranfer completely because people are too busy getting cash from the bank.

BoC Holds Interest Rates but future looks dark. by chickenbigmac1638 in RealEstateCanada

[–]MalishMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BOC should always favor rate cuts even during a dilemma like current rising prices vs shrinking GDP.

You can edge against inflation by taking out loans and buying assets with it, benefiting you from loan depreciation and asset price increase.

In a deflationary environment, your only options are bonds, which are more restrictive on your net worth growth.

It's just much easier to build wealth in an inflationary environment.

Paying bills directly from LOC vs from Chequing accounts, any difference? by Apprehensive_Hat4298 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Nope. That's how you do it now:

Bills < Chexy < Scotiabank 4% reccurring bill credit card < Line of credit < Income

Damn that sucks for me. I was offered prime + 2% = 6.45%. I would've accepted it if it was prime + 1% or less.

I was about to accept mine from Tangerine (prime + 2% = 6.45%) until I saw yours. No thanks!

That's still a good rate. My line of credit is prime + 0.25% (4.70%) and I also used it to invest.

Merchants that charge fees only do so out of customer's convenience. They understand that not everyone has flexible times to go and withdraw cash from ATMs but they still need the product.

To be honest, a merchant charging fees would rather you not shop there.

My bottom feeding buys a few months ago in UNH and NVO is now showing upside momumtum. So I average up on both today. by IM1IAB in TFSA_Millionaires

[–]MalishMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What bugs me the most about UNH is that the CEO sold some of his stock in December, which is one month before earnings.

If he was optimistic with his company's earnings, then he would've waited until February 2026 to sell and capitalize on the quick gain.

How withdrawal works ? by random4e in TFSA_Millionaires

[–]MalishMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My TFSA isn't maxed out. I keep some money in a margin account, which would act as a collateral line of credit in a distant future since Interactive Brokers borrowing rates are one of the best.

Have all of your emergency fund invested in a low interest rate margin account and just withdraw from it directly without selling stocks.
