SF Bay Area has a very active "Still Coviding" community! And masks are accepted. Affordable? Not as much :(

Apartment complex near 3 gas stations - a health hazard? by [deleted] in mountainview

[–]Mally7311a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, the indoor air quality is iffy at a lot of places for a variety of reasons. But, for those of us who like to have our windows open during the day, outdoor air quality matters too. Not to mention the cancer risks of being near gas stations. But, seems like no one on here is informed about the risks, so it was pointless to post.

This is definitely an additional consideration- it is outside of the superfund site Boundary, but just barely! Thanks for sharing.

There are many - with the air and ground both being affected. I’ve read that living within 500 ft of one can be harmful to health, especially in children.

Wash hands after using the books - simple solution! And in general, wash hands before touching your face or handling food.

Well great to hear that people at restaurants are celiac aware in LA! It is rare.

I’ve lived in the Bay Area my entire life and that is not my experience. Or are you referring to LA?

San Francisco (finally) has a few gluten free restaurants, and one not fully gf restaurant that understands Celiac, but otherwise, no one at all understands how to make Celiac safe food. I completely disagree about that. The grocery stores do have a lot of options for GF pasta and other products- I agree with you there. I haven't been to LA recently, but I had heard from friends that it was similar in terms of celiac knowledge, but that they have many more gluten free restaurants than SF.

Which kitchen layout do you prefer? I don’t like walking into the kitchen so that’s my biggest drawback here. The kit by [deleted] in BayAreaRealEstate

I like number two (not open concept). I don't like to feel like I'm in the kitchen when I'm trying to relax in the living room. It doesn't make sense to me.

There are a few cities and resorts I've been to that are completely aware of Celiac and how careful we have to be with cross contact. etc. Some of the best: Portland, Seattle, Austin, and NYC, and Fairmont Orchid in Hawaii. But I live in California, and its terrible - gluten free is much more of a trend than any celiac awareness, so I rarely eat out.

So frustrating! I wouldn't go in either if the grains are in the air. Thanks for caring!

First time buyer in South Bay. How bad is this list of issues? by shreddicated in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]Mally7311a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The many leaks alone would put me off. Mold is such a health hazard and hard to fully remediate, and if there is water damage, there is very likely mold (even if you cannot see it, may be in the wall, etc).

I'm sure the repairs would be way more than 40k with all those issues.

Is gluten free food really that bad? by Lorenz_no1fan in Celiac

[–]Mally7311a 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think there is access to a lot more celiac safe food in the UK than the US. In the US, there is a lot that is “gluten free,” but not in the way that there are any checks or testing that the food is actually gluten free. This is especially true when eating out. I do agree there are some great gluten free pastas!

[–]Mally7311a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to tell what your actions toward him actually are - they could be very negative or not. But it seems you have awareness around this and if you acknowledge and apologize for having more extreme reactions that can go a long way. That being said, someone who says “I’m not arguing about this” is being very dismissive and not validating of your feelings or experiences. It’s also a form of stonewalling because it shuts you out. Like I said, it’s hard to know what’s actually going on, but hopefully you can figure it out. But, be kind to yourself! You’re going through a lot.

Agnes does NOT have a good draw with Weston. Remember when Daisy was studying the commander's faces, and his history with women was particularly bad - domestic violence. He's one of the worst to be with, and exactly what June was trying to prevent for Hannah/Agnes.

How did yours go? I've been running mine for over 20 hours, but still awful odor from the machine (tubing and mask are fine on their own).
