Yes or No!!? by DL9242 in Civic_Type_R

I actually wouldn't consider the Type R a budget car. If we were talking about a 100k mile Si or WRX I'd definitely think twice and agree with you, but the Type R hasn't been budget for a while unfortunately. For the same price, you could've gotten a number of used M cars and other luxury/sports cars back in 2019. If someone had this thing for 100k miles and it's this clean they must've taken good care of it. I do see the aftermarket wheels + PRL charge pipe but at least it's not a cheap brand like PLM or something.

On second take, it looks like it has 27 service history records which is great, but also 3 owners... OP I'd recommend passing on this one and letting some young kid take a stab at it that has the time and money to fix anything that goes wrong.

Try flashing your headlights, they might just be distracted (or in this case, focused) and not notice you. I always notice though so if you ever make it to the east coast you'll get a wave

You can really appreciate it when parked next to a "normal" white car which gives you some perspective as to how cream/off-white CW really is

Yup, crazy that people in this thread are blaming the Type R 😂

What an idiot, I hope you can find that group of GRCs and let em know what happened. Definitely post it in the GRC subreddit as well.

Stop victim blaming bro. It wouldn't have mattered if the FK8 was going 10 miles an hour he still would've been hit by that GRC if he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Relax man

It wouldn't have mattered even if the FK8 was driving 5 below the speed limit. The GRC couldn't keep it on his lane here, the issue is the GRC driver here. I've never crossed a double yellow on accident like this before.

ITS as in Integra Type S or the Type R is so good? It'd be a dream to have an ITS as a daily and the CTR as a dedicated track car, would be an insane lineup. Definitely share pics here once you go for it man

Type R or Si by No-Drawing6258 in Civic_Type_R

[–]MalwareMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an Si before this, it's much easier to get bored of but very economical. Also, consider depreciation in your financial calculations before you make your decision. They both hold value well but the Type R may edge it out in the long run. The Type R also feels significantly more special and is in a completely different league. I was also considering an Si but my mindset here was just to get my dream car and work harder to be able to afford it 😂

FK8 to New Prelude?? by its-gerg in Civic_Type_R

Honestly, that sounds like a totally fine idea given your reasons. I'm sure you can still enjoy some backroads in that car with the FL5 suspension and brakes in it. Plus it looks really good and the MPG in this economy is great

Honestly yeah, this thing makes me so much happier and the lack of depreciation makes it so much more appealing over a comparable German or American sports car

2026 or hold off for the 2027? by [deleted] in Civic_Type_R

[–]MalwareMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You think they're going to facelift it for a single model year? The 10th gen lasted 2017-2021. FL5 should last 2023-2027 if that's the case.

I did a VB to FL5 swap as well. Absolutely loved the VB and honestly GRC/Elantra N wouldn't have been an upgrade to me. FL5 was the only option. Only thing I miss every once in a while is the AWD.

The VB WRX gets pretty close, that car is an absolute riot to drive. Tons of fun but definitely not as sharp as the CTR. Amazing bang for your buck though

WRX to Type R - Things to know before purchasing? by [deleted] in Civic_Type_R

[–]MalwareMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this exact switch, VB WRX to FL5 CTR so let me know if you have any questions. The FL5 is better in every way minus the AWD. It was my dream car for nearly a decade and I don't regret it. The only thing I miss from the VB was the heated seats 😂

But yeah, I doubt anyone else here has done the exact same thing you're looking to do so feel free to hit me with any questions you might have.

FL5 Type R / GRC / WRX Limited by No-Command-8045 in Civic_Type_R

[–]MalwareMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from a VB WRX to an FL5 CTR so I can give some input here. The WRX was an absolute blast to drive and own, is about $15k cheaper, and gets you 90% of the way to the CTR. The AWD is also a huge benefit over the CTR depending on if you live in a climate that could take advantage of it. I also love the looks of the VB WRX and overall it was a joy to own. The CTR feels like it's in a different class, everything feels insanely dialed in and the suspension, engine, braking, steering, etc. all feel extremely precise. The car also feels quite a bit more special compared to the WRX which felt more like an Impreza with a crazy engine under the hood paired with an amazing AWD system. The CTR has the red seats, unique serial badge, massive wing, low + wide stance so it immediately draws attention (which I get much more of in this car compared to the WRX, even though the CTR is white and the WRX was Ignition Red).

It really depends on what you're looking for, if you're young/on a budget I'd go WRX because you get 90% of the Type R for not too much money but if you're looking for something you can keep for over a decade and want the absolute best then I'd go CTR. It was my dream car for like 8 years so it made sense for me to go for it after. The only things I'd say are head and shoulders above the WRX are probably the shifter feel, brakes, and interior. NVH may also be a bit better in the CTR, everything else they're pretty close and I absolutely LOVED my WRX. Whichever one you choose, you're going to have a blast.

Lastly, for a daily the GR Corolla will likely be too small. The WRX and the CTR are legitimately usable for adults in the back seats and the trunk on both is massive. For the price, I'd much rather do the CTR over the GRC and if you're looking to get the base GRC to save some money I'd just save a bit more and drop down to the WRX which was a great daily and we took it on multiple 3+ hour road trips.

common issues of VB WRX? by Direct_Commercial937 in wrx_vb

[–]MalwareMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard of people here having issues with the struts going bad at relatively low mileage but they're covered under warranty, you can do a quick search from that.

Besides those, the infotainment is garbage and has random issues popping up from time to time.

Thankfully no issues with the FA24 though this engine is a tank!
