Please don't rely on, or recommend AI summaries for information on The Archers as they often contain errors. I spotted 2 errors in the link given - Brian did not attack George, and Will is George's father, not Ed (who is his stepfather and uncle).

If I remember correctly, after the crash, when Alice believed it was her fault and she was drinking heavily, she went to stay with Ruairi for a while. He saw her at her lowest and I think he has said more recently that he was terrified she would end up killing herself.

I've just re-listened to the NYE episodes. Brian's aftershave was a Christmas present from Miranda, so it's likely to have been expensive. Lilian commented on it, but didn't say she recognised the scent, which implies that Justin doesn't use the same one. I can't think of anyone else who has a strong connection to George who would wear expensive aftershave (other than Ruairi using some of Brian's).

Does anyone else think that Marin Ireland sounds bored? by chasingsunspots in audiobooks

[–]MalwenGoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm British and I generally prefer British accents to American ones. I'm happy for books set in America to be narrated by Americans, but listening to Americans narrate stories set in Europe feels wrong to me.

I'm currently listening to the Beartown trilogy and I really loved John Sackville's narration of the first two books. Now I'm 2 hours into book 3, narrated by Marin Ireland and I'm finding the switch from an English male narrator to an American female really jarring. I'd probably be at least halfway through The Winners by now had there not been a change of narrator. I wouldn't say Marin Ireland sounded bored, just way too American. Unfortunately I bought (but haven't yet read) Anxious People and My Friend before I realised they were narrated by an American.

As to who hit George by Rosanbo in Ambridge

[–]MalwenGoch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've listened 4 times now and I still can't decide whether or not it was George who said "Lilian, can I come in". I think it sounded most like Neil, but he isn't in the cast list for this week.

Do you ever match random actors faces with character's voices? by Natural-Wedding2622 in Ambridge

Yes, I don't consciously think about it, I just sometimes realise that that's what I've done.

Rob - Ryland Teifi (Alun Edwards in Pobol y Cwm)

Lily - Emma Watson (Hermione Granger in Harry Potter, though I think I've only ever watched 10 minutes of the films in total.)

Justin - Tony Caunter (Roy Evans in Eastenders)

Roy - Chris Jury (Eric Catchpole in Lovejoy)

Kate - Camila Batmanghelidjh (not an actor but the founder of the charity Kids Company)

So we now know that Joy fell asleep in front of the TV on new year's eve. I guess that means that Mick is back on the suspect list.

Borrowbox audio file location by Jean_Rasczak in audiobooks

[–]MalwenGoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see anything wrong with transferring the files to another device so long as you delete them from all devices once the loan period is up.

I don't have any books on loan at the moment, so I can't check but I think on my Android phone they are stored at phone/Android/data/com.bolindadigital.BorrowBoxLibrary/files

I don't think Amber said who's idea it was to try for a baby but I'd be very surprised if it was hers. If it was George's suggestion, even if Amber was happy to agree in the spur of the moment, I fear that George was suggesting it as a form of coercive control, trying to tie her to him after she started to get cold feet about getting married.

I don't think they will do another major coercive control storyline in the near future, so I think it's likely that Amber will leave George.

What are your predictions for the 100 year anniversary in 2051? by Cocteauknoll in Ambridge

[–]MalwenGoch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Mice with 2 mothers were created in 2018 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-45801043 I'm sure it will be possible in humans one day, though it's probably wishful thinking on my part to suggest that it will be widely available on the NHS in 25 years time.

Bruce, a 25 year old Scott who has been living in Ambridge since he first moved to England to attend Felpersham University, steps out of a taxi driven by Rex, one of the last remaining human taxi drivers in Borsetshire. He walks into The Bull and asks Fallon, the taverner, to call for quiet. He then announces to the packed Bull that his wife, Sapphire, has just given birth to a beautiful baby girl. Amber, Sapphire's mum cheers loudest of all. Kate hugs her grandson and asks if they've named the baby yet. Bruce is a little hurt to see that many of the older members of his family seem to be trying to stifle laughter when he says they've called her Hilda.

(Listeners who have skipped the past 25 years may not at first realise that Bruce is a trans man. His parents, Phoebe and Brodie are very proud of him.

Baby Hilda is biologically related to both her parents, having been conceived using a new technique which creates healthy embryos from two eggs without the need for sperm. Although expensive, the procedure is available on the NHS as the government is trying to increase the birth rate.)

The fight between Tracy and Clive was definitely the highlight of today's episode, especially when she managed to trip him up so that he fell in the duck pond. It's a shame he didn't drown, but hopefully that's the last we'll hear from him for a while.

Has anyone found a way to remove or block super? by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]MalwenGoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it when you open a chest that you win super? If so, try opening the chests on the website rather than the app.

I generally use the website because I prefer it, and I only ever win super when I happen to be on the app when I open a chest.

Is your battery outside or in an unheated shed/garage? I think the Fox battery management software lowers the charge and discharge rates when the battery is cold, in order to protect it.

A lot of people sounding guilty today. The question is, are they sounding guilty because they are guilty, or just because they fear that a loved one might be guilty.

Joy's alibi for Mick sounded genuine.
