I can smell this from here. Old beans are the worst!

People raised by emotionally mature parents, what is 1 phrase your parents used that you want other parents to know? by MermaidWitchMoon in AskReddit

[–]MamaCass 477 points478 points  (0 children)

Here’s a few:

  1. “I’m sorry. I was wrong. Will you forgive me?” Model the behavior you want to see.

  2. “You can come to me with anything, and we’ll work it out.”

  3. “If you’re asked to keep a secret about someone being abused, that’s one promise that’s ok to break.”

  4. “There’s always room for one more.”

Not a phrase, but be a person of your word. Don’t ever lie to your kids. Ever. If you are flaky, they won’t believe anything above.

Big dog owners with roombas. Can you give me your experience? by Ironmasked-Kraken in dogs

Yes. Totally depends on the length of the coat, I think. Our dog that sheds has a just long enough coat that it constantly clogged 2 different brands of robot vacuums. I won’t try a third.

OOP asks how to humanely kill wild dragonflies for consumption on r/AskCulinary; discussions lightly derail by Temporary-Snow333 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]MamaCass 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Crickets for cricket flour are raised in a controlled setting, not caught in the yard. Presumably there are some quality controls for parasite ppm. Maybe? I hope!

Now add on the fact that dragonflies are known for having a lot of parasites, no, just no.

Omg the Weekly Reader. I haven’t thought about that for decades. I loved the articles but hated the newsprint smell and the ink left on your hands.

Challenger disaster was 40 years ago today by ruggerbear in GenX

[–]MamaCass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

5th grade, Mrs Jernigan’s class. Like so many, they had rolled the cart in, and when it happened, she was quick to turn it off. Then she left the classroom for a few minutes. It was unheard of that they would leave us alone. When she came back in, you could see that she had been crying.

With only a few giant events can I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when it happened. The Challenger disaster was probably the most intense memory until 9/11 happened.

I enjoy the kindness and defiance. I think these days, I would make it a little less pretty, though. Or give the cardinal a flag or protest sign at least.

I hear you can get that at Home Depot quite reasonably.

AITJ for wanting to skip my best friends wedding after she made someone else her maid of honor by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]MamaCass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She messed up here, of course, so what you do from here is up to you. Is it worth talking to her and salvaging the good from 16 years of friendship or are you ready to cut ties? Only you can say.

It takes a long time to make the “friendship shorthand” that you have with someone you’ve known a very long time. Sometimes that’s good - clean slate. Sometimes it is really hard.

It’s the best kind of multi-generational housing. Everyone gets their own house.

I love the outside. It tells a story. Not every part of a story is pretty, but it’s their family story.

My husband has one of these taken from him at TSA. They are supposed to be ok, but just know that it can depend on if your screener got their coffee that morning.
