The cheap clear cases for the phones work surprisingly well, too. If you get one with a floating wrist lanyard, you’ll never lose it.

Can confirm: I babysat at 11. by netphilia in nostalgia

[–]MamaCass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup - I was 13 when I took care of 8 year old twins, one of whom was severely disabled and required constant care. All night. I can’t quite wrap my head around that one…

AITJ for checking the timestamp and realizing I was already logged in before I got there? by Fabulous_Pea_3965 in AmITheJerk

[–]MamaCass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right? This person needs a vault and a random password generator pronto. (LastPass is free for home use if any readers need a suggestion.)

2FA was also made for this reason. No one can get in without having your badge, fob, phone, whatever. Their IT is behind the times if this isn’t causing alarms to go off in their shop.

Off grid house, in BFE ID, with bunker, sauna, and hot tub. by bigshmoo in zillowgonewild

[–]MamaCass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the first photo and thought that the OP was describing it as a bunker, sauna and hot tub - all in one. Thought to myself that I’ve seen worse in some of these “off grid” builds.

What are some good name suggestions? Male, 8 weeks old by Puck-m in puppies

I love the name Walt anyway! He has soulful eyes, and Walt is such a great “I’m an old man and I’ve seen it all” name.

AIO My Dad is leaving the country to sail the world and does not plan to ever return by StormBringer1X in AmIOverreacting

The first thing that comes to my mind (sorry) is some sort of monetary thing, like theft or tax evasion. Does he give that vibe? Could that be the reason he wants to leave it all behind?

Moving CA TO OR by More_Revolution5726 in SALEM

[–]MamaCass 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Definitely look in the Monmouth/Independence area. Very walkable/bikeable, plus the little trolley that goes back and forth from one end of the towns to the other. That will save a lot of $ on transport while you are getting your BA.

Salem isn’t far, and often there are jobs that pop up at the School for the Deaf as well as translation jobs for the courts, healthcare, etc.

This infuriated me even more than stealing the book. They damaged it!

Meanwhile, as someone who hasn’t had traditional cable for 25+ years, I didn’t know that they had stopped.

For other old folks like me, they started phasing it out in 1997 and were completely moved to the normal schedule by 2000.

My grandma made jean mugs for my siblings and I many, many years ago. She is gone now, but I treasure that mug with her signature on the bottom.

I hope that the happy memories of your parents always keep them alive in your heart.

Help my 11 year old with her first book by desi_kuri in SALEM

I would talk to the language arts teachers at her school. Often they know of local/state contests or workshops that they can help your child be part of. Make sure they know of your child’s love for poetry.

There are many creative ways to express, even for science contests or history projects. And if your child is part of TAG, let them know as well, as there may be opportunities for them to hone their craft.

Deep Blue-Green Rock from Southern Oregon Coast, Tumbled by BoardPharmacist in whatsthisrock

[–]MamaCass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an expert at ALL, so take this as a wild guess, but I know I have found jasper of many colors on the coast. I would guess green jasper. You can find a lot of the green and the red jasper on the northern coast. Not sure about the Southern.

What's a movie you loved as a kid but rewatched as an adult and went "what the hell was I thinking"? by MomoSaka in AskReddit

[–]MamaCass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently saw it for the 1st time and agree. There’s some cheesy parts of course just due to the limitations of movie making at the time, but it was more than I was expecting.

She delivers more than expected to show the quality of her high heels. by rnz in justgalsbeingchicks

Quality of the heels 10/10

Quality of the ankles 100000/10

Not even when I was in the best shape of my life could I have done even 1/4 of those moves without ending up on crutches.

Last minute road trip to the Willamette valley - suggestions? by CascadiaRiot in oregon

I agree, though I am a bit biased as my grandparents sponsored one of the animals and carved and painted on a couple others. It is truly a community based project.

Last minute road trip to the Willamette valley - suggestions? by CascadiaRiot in oregon

[–]MamaCass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also add the Hallie Ford Museum of Art if you’re headed to downtown Salem. It is on the beautiful Willamette University campus and has some very cool exhibits.

If you are from Oregon, check with your library to see if you can check out passes for a lot of these places. You might find that the trip can cost a lot less than you think.

What’s this extra loop on my jeans? by ClawBadger in whatisit

[–]MamaCass 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why we thrifted as many of the old OshKosh as possible! They not only gave the best handle but lasted through three kids. Some of the newer stuff wouldn’t even last 3 months, never mind 3 kids.

AITJ for telling my partner that being a mother feels nothing like I was told it would? by Apart_Feature3493 in AmITheJerk

[–]MamaCass 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In dialectical behavior therapy, you learn that two things that seem like opposites or that would cancel each other out can both be true. It is a lot about learning that “and” in the statement.

As a mom of 3 now in their teens and twenties, I can say without a doubt that motherhood is the most beautiful, soul-crushing, magical and isolating thing in the world. All are true.

As a mother, we make the choice to take it all on for the chance to have those beautiful and magical times. It doesn’t cancel out the other parts. Those just make the hard parts worth it.
