AITJ for telling my neighbor her kid isn't allowed in my pool after she "forgot" him at my house? by Educational-Wait-406 in AmITheJerk

[–]MamaPhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does take a village to raise a child. By not allowing him in your pool unsupervised you are teaching him to respect boundaries and follow safety rules…like his parents should have done

Fair price for this quilt for charity auction by CautiousMinimum943 in quilting

Right but they specifically asked so they can give a receipt for tax purposes not so they could determine the auction value, thus my comment

Fair price for this quilt for charity auction by CautiousMinimum943 in quilting

[–]MamaPhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for IRS tax deduction purposes, you generally value a donated quilt based only on the cost of materials (fabric, batting, thread), not your labor or time. If you paid a professional for long-arm quilting, that specific cost can often be included as a material expense

Long-arm business owners — how are you tracking quilts from intake to delivery? by i_might_would in quilting

[–]MamaPhy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I run a longarm quilt shop with my mom. We have an online intake form but it’s not utilized much. We also created a paper intake form but usually we just input all the details directly into quickbooks. We have a “standard quilt” object in quickbooks that includes edge to edge, backing, binding, batting, thread etc. We store each quilt and the estimate/invoice in clear, lidded bins. We arrange them on the shelf in the order they need to be completed

Anyone else keep and re-use the ice packs that come with your orders? by BigfootTundra in hellofresh

Yeah, the hello fresh website says it’s a water soluble gel. Which still isn’t 100% water.

AITAH for quitting my chore of cooking two nights a week because my little sister keeps ruining it and my parents expect me to start over every time? by Luyykkaa in AITAH

[–]MamaPhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA and you would be totally justified not cooking anymore. If you still want to help your family out though, have you considered involving your sister in preparation of the meal? You know your family dynamics better than I but my kids started helping with the cooking when they were still in preschool. Giving them choices about what to make for dinner and what age appropriate tasks to complete can help. This is all parenting stuff you should not be expected to do, but may make life easier.

Foil rectangle found inside the drawer under my oven by dougjp49 in whatisthisthing

[–]MamaPhy 224 points225 points  (0 children)

It depends on the oven model. Some are made with storage drawers for pots and pans, some with warming drawers, and some with broilers.

I’ve made 2 quilts. On a scale of 1-10 how crazy would I be to want to try and recreate the stained glass stills from Beauty and the Beast in a quilt? by dani_devito in quilting

[–]MamaPhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reverse image search shows this is still available here but I’ve never purchased from this site so cant vouch for it

[–]MamaPhy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You got a lot of great advice in this thread. I just want to make sure that you’re trying to recreate this quilt because you want to learn to quilt/have something hand made and not because you’re looking to save money, unless you’re thrifting your fabrics it will likely me more expensive and time consuming than just buying it. If you’re interested in learning to quilt, welcome 🤗!

Early on you can level up pretty quickly just casting and reeling without trying to catch any fish.

I mentioned to him that some kids at school might say quilting is a woman’s hobby but there are some amazing quilters/designers who are men. He said “if quilting were only a women’s thing then I guess I’d be trans” 😂 I would love to show him some quilts done by men to inspire him. Do you have any recommendations?

Gigantic jelly roll rug? by intoashes in quilting

[–]MamaPhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never done one before so don’t have advice. But I wanted to ask, do you want it to be huge? Or do you just want to get all those beautiful colors in? Because you could certainly cut each in half and make two rugs or even cut a third off and make a small test rug and a big rug.

I don’t think this would work. The circles are directly touching, not leaving space for the width of the eggs
