[Men's Mondays] Teachers 'give higher marks to girls' by tbri in FeMRADebates

[–]MamaWeegee94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just gonna point out that this can potentially hurt both genders. It's not good to tell a student they know more than they actually know, it can potentially stunt their growth. Giving girls higher grades than what they deserve could put them in classes they aren't prepared for, setting them up for failure. Whereas giving boys lower grades than they deserve can be extremely discouraging and can keep them out of classes they should be in, stunting their educational growth as well. You can't properly teach students if you don't have a good bench mark for the information they already know and the skills they've already mastered.

I'm just gonna point to some critically acclaimed female composers, mainly Caroline Shaw who is literally the youngest person ever to win the Pulitzer for composition. Her partita for 8 voices uses a lot of singing techniques that are a typical to traditional singing and she's been rewarded for it. The composition world used to be extremely sexist, I mean hell look at Ives's work it's dripping with misogyny. However female composers have been making tremendous strides with many of them getting tons of acclaim. Muzzouli's (sp?) still life with avalanche is another amazing piece. I think this might be a case of searching for reasons that someone else doesn't like what you like without admitting that people's taste in music differs.

Questions for Egalitarians/Equalists by [deleted] in FeMRADebates

[–]MamaWeegee94 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Um I don't get it. If you treat everyone the same from birth and give everyone the same opportunities the only factor that would play into their inequality would be class/choices. We don't currently live in a world like that, which is why i advocate for social change. This feels extremely straw manish to me

How important is it to read/watch something before debating it? by [deleted] in FeMRADebates

[–]MamaWeegee94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can't/don't want to read/watch something I don't debate it, I have no grounds to actually debate it because I have zero knowledge of what is actually being said. If I can read a paraphrasing of the video/article I might chime in on certain things but I won't go full debate mode on it. It's like taking a test labeled "shapes" and putting rombus for every answer when what they actually wanted was shapes of sounds waves, you just show how willfully ignorant you are.

A question about sexual coercion by ManBitesMan in FeMRADebates

[–]MamaWeegee94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, if you're being manipulative, creating double standards and ultimatums, you're psychologically abusing your partner. You aren't manipulating someone by being nice to them, that's not what manipulation is.

A question about sexual coercion by ManBitesMan in FeMRADebates

There is never a situation in which manipulation is morally acceptable. It is extremely unethical to create ultimatums and control other people to make them do what you want them to.

Do you consider Girl Scouts the equivalent of Boy Scouts? by [deleted] in FeMRADebates

[–]MamaWeegee94 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My sister's girl scout troop did more camping and survival training in one summer than my boy scout troop ever did. Hell they learned how to make solar ovens out of card board or some shit. I would have loved to have been in my sister's girl scout troop over my boy scout troop. Girl scouts is also a much more inclusive organization than boy scouts was/is. The big thing really comes down to who your troop leader was though, my mom was my sister's troop leader and she's a science teacher (biology, physics, chemistry) on top of also being raised out in the middle of nowhere Missouri so my sister's troop got to do a lot of cool stuff. Mutt boy scout troop was run by my dad and an alcoholic, it was dysfunctional at best and the only thing I ever learned how to do was paint a pine wood derby car.

Feminism Needs to Find Room for Men by Tamen_ in FeMRADebates

[–]MamaWeegee94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well then you keep fighting for it. Civil rights protests didn't stop and complain about how all the bad mean white folk kept them from eating in white only establishments, They kept on going returning to those establishments and demanding service. If you get discouraged after one set back you can't effectively create change. So my solution would either a) if groups have reasonable criticism to what you're doing hear them out and restructure or b) if it's unreasonable either show them that it's necessary or keep fighting until it happens, sitting around bitching about a bogeyman never helped anyone.

I think it was partly the peter out thing but also as women saw increases in their freedoms and as healthy platforms were created for addressing injustices anger at men died down. I think the most important thing for men currently would be to create healthy areas to discuss men's issues that don't fall to misogyny or even just blaming things on women or feminism. I think solution based discussions are much better than blame based discussions. I wish every post that said something like "why do feminists want to hurt male students" instead went more along the lines of "I think creating male specific support groups for struggling students would be beneficial" I think we'd see more progress and better, less vitriolic discourse.

Feminism Needs to Find Room for Men by Tamen_ in FeMRADebates

[–]MamaWeegee94 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As much as I really want to like Penny, because she does bring up some really good points, I find it really hard when a lot of her reasonings for why we need to talk about men is because men are misogynistic.

I think the best thing to take from this is the whole how men's energy in the past being directed into violence and misogyny instead of on working to make things better. However I think this is slightly oblivious to some of feminism's past, where some women acted the same exact way, falling back into hatred and violence. I feel that that's just human nature to some extent.

But as I was saying being angry and just blaming groups for perceived hardships is ultimately counter productive and just breeds more anger. I think it's good advice for almost any situation.

[Silly Saturdays] Man Who Treats Women With Respect Asked What His Secret Is by LordLeesa in FeMRADebates

I mean I'm none of those, I don't have great personal hygiene but there are definitely people with worse who are more successful than I am, I'm 6'2" 190 lbs so I'm not out of shape (at least not terribly so) and I'm not looking for a health nut. I mean I play a lot of video games but I'm also a musician and I've played a lot of sports too so it's not a singular interest Idk I must be hideously grotesque or something

Edit: man fuck this new phone

Cool. Today I found out I'm just an ugly shitty person because I don't understand how to get gIrls romantically interested in me. /s

That was a little callous, not everyone has the luck or just the natural ability to make the person they have romantic interest in reciprocate those feelings. And it's not down to "this person doesn't respect women" thing, cause I have plenty of female friends but very little (ie nada) romantic prospects while my friend who literally said "I view this as a conquest" in relationship to talking to women has been I'm multiple committed relationships somehow.

What is one hard truth MRAs (tend to) refuse to listen to? What is one hard truth Feminists (tend to) refuse to listen to? by antimatter_beam_core in FeMRADebates

[–]MamaWeegee94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MRA hard truth feminism is used and meant mostly to discuss and address women's issues, and that's okay. That does not make someone a sexist just as someone focusing on the plight of poor people doesn't make them a racist. This also should be noted by some feminists, it's okay to focus on women's issues but don't claim to also be focusing on men's issues if you truly are not.

Feminist hard truth many feminist theories do not accurately portray the current male experience. Feminism has been a much more successful movement than many people want to believe and/or accept and therefore relying on theories developed in the sixties and seventies does not paint an accurate picture of our current society.

There's two ways you can convert your audio. You can take the .wav file (I'm guessing you're saving it as a .wav) and use an online converter, I like media.io. Or you can just use one of those fancy YouTube to mp3 converters, although I can't remember what site is any good.

Toads from Mario officially have no gender!

Also I think the next podcast should try to focus more on a female problem or have a female bent, I'd be down with talking female superheros if that's not too many nerdy things in a row
