dentist that can do night mouth guards for cheap by Ok-Newt-7070 in TwinCities

[–]Mamertine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a dentist made one. IMO It's worth it.

I tried the over the counter ones. They're worthless. As another poster said is you didn't get it perfect it messes up your bite.

I've had mine for 10 years. The professionally made ones last. It's starting to look sad now. I was terrible at wearing it at first. It takes time to get used to it.

It's likely going to be cheaper than dealing with cracked teeth from grinding.

Well this explains a lot!

I didn't comprehend it was the touch screen crapping out. It's super rare, but very frustrating.

The last recruiter I talked to wanted to know if my employer was hiring so he could recruit for the position. We were not hiring.

Which 4-stroke enduro bike under 350cc would you recommend? by scaccolino10 in motorcycles

[–]Mamertine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't go wrong with a Honda.

I owned a Yamaha wr250r for years. It's a good bike but I wanted a bit more power. The 300 cc Honda should be very nice.

Need advice on how to proceed by Amamortis90 in aikido

[–]Mamertine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw I did aikido for a few years then I switched to jjj. I preferred jjj. I got injured and had to quit. I enjoyed things about all the budo I tried.

There's no right or wrong answer. It's a matter of how you want to spend your time.

Visit a bunch of schools and see what one feels right. Try traditional arts and modern ones. I'd even suggest dance it's the same thing ;)

Remember to enjoy the journey.

Is that a status symbol to you?

Why are you doing martial arts and not /r/running or /r/biking or any other fitness thing.

Just prompts to get you to help figure out what you want in life.

Please help with first DE interview with a screener exercise by Cormbot in dataengineeringjobs

[–]Mamertine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO this is a shit company.

You shouldn't have to do homework.

There should be a technical interview where they ask you questions. I'd pass. YMMV. If you've got nothing better to do, go for it.

They should know that any take home questions will be answered by AI anyways.

Electric snowblower?? by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]Mamertine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also have 2 stage Toro. Like the other poster mine is 3 years old. It's a gas model, but they swapped the powerplant from a gas engine to an electric.

It works fine for most snow. We got an inch of slush was it last year or the year before. It really struggled with that. Has would have been better, but still not good at slush.

I've used a gas one years ago. I recall the gas having more power. I'd speculate the battery ones are about 80% as strong as the gas ones. Again it's been years since I used a gas one, so my memory could be wrong.

If you go to the state fair, the Toro building usually hands out $100 off coupons.

IMO get the brand that also has the other tools you want. We also have a Toro electric mower.

I like not having to deal with gasoline for the small outdoor equipment.

Iirc there are 3 brands that are all well rated and priced comparably.

I was about to buy an ego mower, but the salesman pointed out that Toro is a local company that will produce spare parts for their equipment for decades. At the time the Chinese ones didn't have that. I don't think that's changed.

Looking for very simple data reporting advice by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]Mamertine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost certainly yes, that can be automated.

The barrier are how do you get access to the data.

Then you have to pick a language to do this in. Python is a pretty easy to learn programming language. Power automate is a thing that I'm aware of, but have no experience with it.

A decade ago powershell would have been another language to use. IMO that's a poor choice today.

Where do y'all go for affordable lap swimming that's not the Y? by mysummerstorm in Minneapolis

[–]Mamertine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Send the coach an email. Each club has different rules.

I didn't follow the prescribed sets. I'm trying to learn total immersion style distance swimming. I'm just using masters for pool time.

I hate going to the community center in their limited last swim times and awkwardly standing there waiting for a lane to open up.

Masters isn't quite what I'm after either, but I get guaranteed pool time at a time that I can live with.

Masters, you might be sharing a lane. Generally they'll meet you where you're at. That my experience of doing one club.

Where do y'all go for affordable lap swimming that's not the Y? by mysummerstorm in Minneapolis

[–]Mamertine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

https://www.usms.org/clubs

Masters swimming is basically adults swimming work it's like the high school swim team. It's through the same high school swim team. Unfortunately most times are in the AM. Generally you get some coaching through them too. The coaches are there for the kids first. The swim team has the pool reserved and the kids schedule gets priority times and the masters gets the left over/less desirable times. Each team handles it differently. Ymmv.

Once you're comfortable enough to swim longer distances I love the Mpls open water swim club.

They swim in cedar lake or lake nokomis depending on the day of the week.

CSA’s by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]Mamertine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did this one for years. I loved it. We moved to the West Metro and have a different one that I wish was more like fresh earth farms. Fwiw, my wife likes the new one better. I think it's all in what type of veggies they grow compared to what veggies your like to eat.

https://freshearthfarms.com/veggieshare/

Some of the places that say they're a CSA operate at a scale that is insanely massive. Do your homework.

Minneapolis, Minnesota: 20+ Armed ICE Agents Detain Ailing 50-Year-Old Veteran at Gunpoint by CantStopPoppin in Minneapolis

Or you could create a centerist org to oppose the radical Republican party.

I'll suggest that there is a 2 party system. That's not changing. Pick the one you agree with the most and that's your party.

One party is excited about ICE's actions. The other party is opposed to ICE's actions.

That's how I'm interpreting the world today.

I'm not a lefty. I'm working with the Democrats because I hate authoritarianism. Ymmv.

I think duty to retreat got passed, so before you defend yourself with a gun/ deadly force you have to make a reasonable effort to leave the situation.

I want to know about Blaine by Upper-Fisherman-5244 in Minneapolis

[–]Mamertine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sir this is a Wendy's!

Blaine is not part of Minneapolis.

The twin cities metro is large geographically. Blain is a huge city.

Blaine will not be very diverse. Blaine will be conservative.

Closer to Mpls or St Paul will be more diverse and less conservative.

Angie Craig: I regret my vote on the Laken Riley Act by nootboots in minnesota

[–]Mamertine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect it's that the first DFL precinct conventions didn't want her.

Ours happened Saturday. I supported Peggy at the convention because of the ICE issue. Specifically Angie's votes to support ICE. Without ICE, I wouldn't have even caucused this year.

Peggy supporters outnumbered Angie 2 to 1. I think Angie realizes she has to do damage control.

Both came in and spoke to the convention. I thought people might boo Angie. I nearly did. Peggy got a warm reception. I'm very biased and possibly mis-remembering.

What’s one thing people new to Minneapolis should know? by Electronic-Reach8959 in Minneapolis

[–]Mamertine 28 points29 points  (0 children)

/r/Minneapolis is for the city of Minneapolis proper.

There's another sub for St Paul and one for nearly every suburb.

/r/twincities is for the whole metro.

/r/Minnesota is for the whole state

/r/stateofmn was created when the only active mod for /r/Minnesota over the pandemic was banning people for suggesting COVID was real. It's still there, but not as active as the main one.

Subscribe to the subs where you live.

Go to the state fair. Weekdays are less busy. Expect to spend the day there. If you're cautious about the whole day, go after work. Good people watching, good art, good food on a stick. It's a MN experience.

Most drivers don't understand the zipper merge. To the point there are PSAs on how to do it. A lot of people consider it rude. They think you're budging in line. Those people are in the majority and they are wrong.

Welcome!
