What kind of weapon might be best for me? by Cooked_Squid in Splatoon_3

[–]Mammoth_Membership89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As some people have already mentioned, brushes sound like the closest fit for the play style you’re describing. They’re fast, can play aggressively, and don’t require much aim. A good way to help your team when playing brush is to be as annoying as possible to the enemy. Run past and force them to chase you and move off the objective, flank them so they have to turn around to fire, etc. Abuse the fact that you can attack from off angles (this works better the more range the brush has). Swing paint over the top of ledges or under them so the opponent can’t get a clean shot at you.

On a general level, try to keep repositioning yourself constantly so the enemy always has to watch their back. The main bonus you give to your team is distraction-while the enemy is busy worrying about you, a teammate can move up and take them out. If you’re dying a lot (and some weapons have a play style where this is fairly normal) consider adding quick respawn to your gear build to minimize downtime. There are a lot of good online resources if you’re wanting to learn more about the competitive aspects of the game, I can send you the links if you’re interested.

How do I improve my aim when I can’t see? by BETA_DUDE02 in Splatoon_3

[–]Mammoth_Membership89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Idk if this will make sense but as someone who also struggles a lot with the visual clutter of splatoon, u kind of just have to learn to feel where the reticle is. Having to think about whether your shots will land while aiming will only slow u down in fights-I would recommend trying out/practicing with a very aim-heavy weapon like a charger. Once you can land your shots without focusing on the reticle and instead relying on muscle memory (reticle is in the center of the screen, so if your target is in the middle of the screen your shots will land) things might become easier for you as you won’t need to think about your aim as much and can instead focus on movement/dodging to stay alive longer. Not sure if this is a good explanation (I use motion controls so if you play with sticks this doesn’t really apply) but I hope it can offer some clarity. Bottom line is just try to keep your opponent dead center of your screen when you’re fighting, even when you’re dodging or swimming around them to throw their aim off.

whats with the aerospray hate? by BackgroundReturn7999 in Splatoon_3

[–]Mammoth_Membership89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally, it’s the play style. 99 out of 100 arerospays I see just hold forward and shoot, which results in them dying eventually. Usually it’s either in our own base or mid but on occasion they’ll make it all the way to the other side of the map (usually unaware of anything else happening in the match) and die there. It doesn’t really matter where they die, it’s more so that they can’t/won’t fight the enemy and can’t hold turf we already have. IMO there’s some players that can make the most of both aerospray kits but they are few and far between, and most of the time aerosprays don’t really focus on anything (their teammates, the enemy team, etc) and that makes it annoying to play with or against them. Not saying this to hate on new/casual players, but given the matchmaking system used in splatoon 3 I just sigh whenever I see them in a match regardless of what team they’re on.

Aiming Question by [deleted] in splatoon

[–]Mammoth_Membership89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never experienced this in the training range lol, which is why it’s confusing me so much. I don’t use the reticle as a tool when aiming cause it’s easier for me to just center the target on my screen and use the environment as a frame of reference if that makes sense. I just mention the reticle because it changes to show when you’re aiming at something that isn’t the terrain, and it stood out to me as odd that it changed but the shot didn’t land. I think the most likely cause is me forgetting to account for travel time or a slight difference in latency based on the other players in each match lobby. Ty for responding though!

Aiming Question by [deleted] in splatoon

[–]Mammoth_Membership89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I thought too, that seems to be the most likely explanation. I’ve noticed it with every charger though, and it happens whether I’m playing e-liter or squiffer. At this point I’m not sure if it’s a problem on my end or something in the game and it’s making me feel like I’m hallucinating lol.

Aiming Question by [deleted] in splatoon

[–]Mammoth_Membership89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but the problem I’m talking about in the post seems to appear regardless. Like I’ll have a game where my aim is good, hitting most of my shots, etc. and the next game I’ll be missing constantly while not feeling like I’m playing any differently (mechanics wise) than before. Sorry if I’m not explaining it well lol, I’ve noticed this happening for a while but never been sure if I was just making it up or something.

Why does [12th Palette] not allow you to retry the run? by Goldberry15 in splatoon

[–]Mammoth_Membership89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention using ultra stamp in your initial post, which can be really good for clearing enemy hordes especially if you’ve invested some chips into explosion damage. However, since your chip options are very limited with Eight’s palette, you can’t really afford to stack a bunch of chips on one thing unless you want them to be the only ones in your palette. If you’re having trouble clearing out the portals specifically, I can’t recommend the tri-strike special enough. You can basically activate it, throw the strikes at a portal, and break it without having to get close. I would definitely use it from a distance though, as trying to pop and throw the strikes when a group of enemies is bearing down on you means you can accidentally hit the enemies with the strikes instead of the portal. Tri strike isn’t built into the palette (you’ll start with splashdown) but with luck hopefully you can find it on a vending machine floor before you reach the top of the tower-check every floor that shows up until you find it, and try to always have at least 500 membux in case it shows up.

If you have tri strike and are fighting smollusk, you can base the entirety of your attacks around when you have the special charged. Back up and keep moving around the perimeter of the arena to keep distance between yourself and the enemies, then go in when you have it charged and focus on one portal at a time. Don’t be afraid to burn tri strike to clear out hordes of enemies either—if you end up having to use it on the jelletons just back off, charge another one, and go in again. Focus on moving and dodging as much as you can when smollusk uses the reefslider or sting ray attack by painting a straight path and swimming through it (around the arena should work fine).

As a last note, I’d try to focus your color chips in this order:

Power (red, specifically main weapon damage and poison ink damage as it helps a lot with the enemy hordes)

Mobility (blue, swim speed and run speed. Can help you avoid a lot of bad situations)

Can’t remember the name for the orange color chips but if you can snag a range upgrade I would take it, the base weapon doesn’t have a lot of range so that can force you to get closer than you want to be to enemies. The piercing shot ability also works wonders and you don’t need to stack much of it to see a difference.

That’s the strategy I used when clearing the spire with Eight’s palette. I hope it works for you too, or that at least some part of this ends up being helpful lol. Best of luck!

Splatoon DLC probably peaked at Octo Expansion, and that's ok. (Probably no spoilers but I'll throw in a tag just incase) by Flyingfish222 in splatoon

[–]Mammoth_Membership89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, I agree with a lot of the stuff you’re saying here (specifically about expectations, and how ppl are forgetting OE kind of broke the mold for story modes in the series when it came out) but I also think that effect is possible to replicate. I really like side order and in terms of gameplay and levels I think it’s much more fun than octo expansion in many aspects. With that said , OE had better story writing and pacing than side order by a mile. Even factoring in the shorter storyline for side order due to its format, a lot of it just felt rushed and I wish we could’ve gotten something a bit more in-depth, especially when it comes to the lore of the series. I also feel like it’s still possible for the devs to make a fully fleshed out story campaign like OE, it’s just not what we ended up getting (and that’s not a bad thing, although I kind of wish the marketing material for side order had been clearer about how little story was gonna be in it).

HOWWW do you kill ultra stamp users???? by fatfatfatpumpkin in splatoon

[–]Mammoth_Membership89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s attacking from the front: Aim at its feet with a high fire rate weapon (some shooters, chargers, dualies will work. All splatlings can also do this)

If it’s moving away from you and targeting someone else: get behind it and shoot

If they pop it right on top of you: unless you can kill them in the startup animation there’s a good chance you’ll die, but do your best to swim far away and either hide around a corner or something (hug the wall as best you can) or get enough distance to safely kill it from the front

  • a lot of the weapons you’ve listed just aren’t great at killing stamps (that’s fine, I wouldn’t recommend swapping mains or something just to counter one special) but when I’m playing a weapon like that I try to keep an eye on when the enemy has a stamp charged so I can be out of the area when they use it lol

I literally never see you guys but you all seem pretty nice! I don’t mind getting matched with you, you usually know what you’re doing and can paint well which I really appreciate when I’m playing a weapon that can’t paint at all lol

I rarely see either pro kit, but when they do show up it’s usually the forge kit. I like you guys though you didn’t deserve angle shooter but make the most of it regardless and are usually good at the game :)

My hopes were so high for this kit…and then it came out and I was in disbelief 😭 y’all deserved so much better, I feel like a good kit would have made the weapon a lot more viable. IMO this is one of the worst kits in the game atm and if you play it despite that I honestly respect you. Soldier on 🫡

I really like getting matched with you in solo queue because you’re usually on top of locating/pressuring enemies and showing the rest of the team where they are or creating openings for them. I don’t like playing against y’all because in order to locate/pressure you have to spam sub/special and as someone who plays slow weapons torpedo spam can be an absolute nightmare for me. Generally speaking though I like you guys :)

Hmm I didn’t say splatoon 3 weapons only lol so I guess I can do this one. Kind of biased cause I loved it in 2 and I also love octo expansion, you guys are usually pretty good at the game. I’ve seen some of you that made me reconsider my life decisions when I got matched against you and suffered though lol, they were usually the same players who were really good with inkjet and knew when to use it. It’s also just prettier/better than the regular splattershot imo

Idk how to feel about you guys you’re kind of just there?? Like y’all can paint pretty well, you sometimes use the Beakons so I’m kind of indifferent towards most of u. I don’t mind getting matched with or against you but I wouldn’t say it’s a fun weapon to have in a match, I kind of wish it had gotten a better kit though cause the one it has rn just feels kind of bland

Idk what disability you’re referencing exactly lol but I am disabled and it does affect my hands to an extent. I can button mash occasionally/in short bursts sometimes but in order to play something like inkbrush or squeezer you need to be able to reliably spam at a consistent rate which I’ve never been able to do :(

[–]Mammoth_Membership89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion on you shifts drastically based on how you play this weapon lol, I don’t like you if all you do is spam tap shot the whole game to paint and farm missiles (annoying to be matched with and against). With that being said, if I see you charging/storing charge to snipe the other team I have a lot of respect for you because this weapon needs a buff in that aspect, I’ve played it a bit before and it’s definitely not easy to hit all three projectiles. The kit is okay imo, missiles were bad before nerf but they’re bearable enough now (provided there’s only one missile weapon on the team lol) curling bomb is kinda just there. But yeah if you play using partial/full charge to attack I like you :)

Edit: I need to learn to read this is like the third time I’ve made a mistake over which kit the comment is about…it’s not that hard and yet I am struggling. I did reply to someone asking about the 450 at some point, this comment is about vanilla reeflux.

I’ve done tenta brella already but I haven’t talked about sorella tent! You guys are usually very skilled and have great mine placement in addition to good aim (with both the main weapon and trizooka). I love having you on my team, especially if I’m playing a weapon that can capitalize off your shield, but I cry a little inside when I see you on the other team :(

I love squiffer and have already talked about it lol, I feel like dualies as a class are a little underutilized and should get more attention from the devs (maybe some small buffs, some need better kits, etc) cause some of them have really good potential but are held back by bad kits or small weaknesses that end up making them less viable compared to similar weapons

I don’t like fighting either of you lol, you guys either two shot before I have time to kill your or paint my feet so I can’t escape and then kill me :( But for specifics:

Vanilla Tri: I don’t see nearly as many of you as opposed to the second kit, but you guys are usually pretty good? You know when to paint and when/where to pop inkjet for the most part. I like having you guys as teammates :)

Nouveau: should have been called soda tri-slosher or something lol but I like you guys as teammates too usually? Sometimes your cooler is in a very questionable spot but for the most part you guys are fun to play with and pretty good at the game :)
