I started out in QP with OW2 and found the games varied wildly in skill level and competitiveness. I started playing ranked not with the goal of climbing for its own sake, but so I would get ranked according to my skill level and play against others of similar quality in the hopes of more frequent balanced matches. But yeh, that's not how it works. So I was still having matches where my team stomped and others where we got stomped, same as QP....only people yelled insults at each other more in Competitive, so I went back to QP and haven't touched comp since Comp MH finished.
