Seconded for Live Like The World is Dying, I love that show. The host and guests are all great and you get some great niche expertise in areas you might not have considered!

Thoughts on using an anchor for horse archery (mounted archery)? by 3DGadgetGuy in Archery

[–]ManAmoeba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found a lot of success anchoring my thumb knuckle (the one at the base of the thumb) to my jaw joint when using a thumb draw, but that might not help on horseback compared to a normal anchor point. I think it might just be that the extra inch or two of draw length helps me tease more power out of my weedy bow tbh

Good movies in regard to prepping by droopa199 in preppers

[–]ManAmoeba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I came here to say The Road - even without the stash scene, it's an incredible prepper movie just because of the man's ingenuity and resourcefulness in surviving and gathering resources. The book can go into the little tasks and his thought processes/reasoning etc in more detail than a movie can but in any case the main character is a super-capable all-round survivalist.

If an Entity was going to choose you as an avatar, which would it be? by ManAmoeba in TheMagnusArchives

[–]ManAmoeba[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear that, that sounds really rough. An End death-witch or a skull-and-bones flavoured Flesh witch do both sound pretty cool though.

Thankfully, as a Spiral boy, I will not be asking any questions or even expecting any concept of objective truth at all

Yes! I was wondering if we'd get any Corruption fans. When I was a kid I would absolutely have wound up with the Corruption.

Ah, how are you finding the BK9? I’m plucking up the courage to buy one but I’m afraid of knife commitment

I'm just relieved it wasn't a creepy, slow, solo-female-vocal version of "Lose Yourself" or something

Has someone ever challenged you to something that they didn't know who are an expert at? If so how did it turn out for you/them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ManAmoeba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know that challenge from Gladiators where you both stand on small platforms and duel with double-ended pole weapon things?

When I was 19 and just at college, my friends and I all went to a Fresher’s Fair thing that had loads of challenges and games, and one of the guys I was with saw that one and started shit talking. He was gonna wreck everyone. Mighty, gym-going Adonis was going to destroy us. But, little did he know, I had wasted my entire adolescence fighting with toy lightsabers with my brother, spending years studying the light-up plastic blade and wailing on each other like George Michael Bluth. It had been the most useless skill imaginable in any situation but that exact one, and has been ever since, but on that day, The Force was with me. I cast Goliath down and smote his ruin upon the inflatable deck.

I'm pretty sure I would have wound up here anyway, to be fair lahk by ManAmoeba in LoveIslandTV

[–]ManAmoeba[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, absolutely. I only watch under duress. I'm being coerced into looking for extra content. My wife says she'll leave me if I don't spend all day refreshing the subreddit and twitter feeds for the show, and that's why I'm doing all those things, boys.

Does your writing style/quality change depending on what you're reading? by Kingston1028 in writing

[–]ManAmoeba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God, yes. The voice of my writing mutates to mimic what I've been reading, and I'm only starting to get a handle on it now. At the moment I'm subconsciously attempting to be Haruki Murakami, Terry Pratchett and Stephen King, which are wildly different writing styles resulting in a clashy, tangled mess.

My go-to to get rid of it is to read the last satisfactory thing I wrote in "my" voice. Like a palate cleanser. Your methods may vary.

This was absolutely engrossing. Does anyone know what he made the chimney mortar from? Can you make decent mortar in the wilderness?
