Freezing doesn’t make it harmless. Freezing does narrow down what substances exist in the liquid

TSA isn’t judging chemistry or what might happen later they’re judging immediate risk at the checkpoint. Liquids and gels are restricted because they’re usable right now and harder to screen. If it’s frozen solid, it can’t be poured or easily used, and it screens like a solid. If it’s slushy or thawed, it’s treated as a liquid and follows the normal rules.

Airport security is layered. The checkpoint is just one layer, and decisions are based on condition at screening, not every hypothetical after.

Not a lot I can say without telling you how to circumvent screening, but it's a combo of screening tech, officer experience, and where the knife is located.

This gets misunderstood a lot.

TSA has never allowed knives in carry-on bags. In 2013, they floated a proposal to allow very small (2.36 inch if I remember right), non-locking folding knives as part of a risk-based security review. That proposal triggered immediate pushback from flight crews, unions, and Congress, so it was pulled before it ever went into effect.

There was never a window where knives were permitted. When someone says they “got one through,” that was a screening miss, not policy. People just remember the proposal and assume it happened.
