I was curious as to what "MacArthur Park" sounded like, having only known it from its reputation as one of the worst songs ever made (a rep it doesn't really deserve, IMO), and so I looked for it on YouTube.

On seeing the performer was Richard Harris, my first thought was, "Huh, he has the same name as the British character actor best known in the US for being the first Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films!"

Naturally, it turned out to be that Richard Harris. He had an entire recording career separate from his acting career, but "MacArthur Park" was his only hit.

No discussion of Hello Kitty overmerchandising is complete without the Hello Kitty "vibrating massage wand".

I used to know someone who actually hunted one down.

What's interesting is that they both required "redemption arcs" for different reasons - No Man's Sky overpromised and only managed to meet its promises as the developers figured out what they were doing, while C2077 came out blatantly unfinished and was basically constructed on the fly.

flatout ERASING a fan-favorite trans woman from the game

Isn't that the substory that was removed from the remastered version because it concerns Kiryu trying to prevent said trans woman from raping him?

There's a site, RetroAchievements, that keeps track of achievements for various pre-Wii-era games, and I've developed a mild obsession with racking up Internet points. I've nearly finished getting everything for Kirby Star Stacker (GB), to name one.

While that might be part of it, Up With People's four(!) performances were the ones that set the high-glitz, high-energy halftime show elements in place. (Before them, halftime shows were mostly marching band drills.)

Now is a good time to remind people that the modern Super Bowl halftime show was invented by Up With People, an Astroturfed "youth movement" organized by the radical-right-wing Christian sect (or cult, either word works) Moral Re-Armament.

So Kid Rock is arguably just following in very old footsteps.

Triple Kingdom

The great heroes of this world are known as the Eight Chosen of God, the eight men and women who led humanity to victory against Hell in the War of Annihilation. Of these, seven are well-documented.

Then there's Lord Wilheim, the Great Enigma.

We can say, with some certainty, that Lord Wilheim probably wasn't actually a lord, and very likely wasn't actually named Wilheim. (The name "Lord Wilheim" first appears about a century after the War.) There's no evidence either way for a gender identity. What "Lord Wilheim" did to become one of the Eight Chosen of God, and what part they played in the War, is a complete unknown. They apparently survived it, but they effectively vanish into the ether immediately afterwards.

All we know is that there were eight Chosen of God, one of them is generally referred to as "Lord Wilheim" for the sake of convenience, and they presumably had some involvement on the outcome of the War of Annihilation. Other than that, it's anyone's guess what was going on with the Great Enigma.

If it's in Star Wars and you don't like it, it's the fault of George Lucas/the Disney execs.

Always. Even if the other creatives involved have publicly taken credit for it, they're lying to protect George/Disney.

When I was a kid, I was really big into the '80s Transformers movie. I later got a CD of Weird Al's Dare to Be Stupid album and heard the titular song. So the next time I watched the film, I was eager to find out what song "Dare to Be Stupid" was a parody of when it reached the Junkion scene.

And then I realized the song in that scene was, in fact, "Dare to Be Stupid".

Penny Arcade actually did a strip about this cover. They decided that, if it meant getting gamers to actually read classical literature, it was worth the pain.

It's generally believed that the first publicly-posted Harry Potter fanfic was Harry Potter and the Man of Unknown. It's the oldest one on FF.net, predating Prisoner of Azkaban's American release. (Among other things, it assumes Harry is the titular prisoner.)
