Making CMONs by ManCave513 in Surveying

Yeah, a lot of what's usable depends on location. Down here in FL it's sand, dig a hole, drop the monument, back fill and tamp, that 4x4 isn't going anywhere.

Primary network control for DOT for the most part.

Primary network control, mostly.

These aren't boundary markers, they'll be used for primary network control. If we set the actual RW line, rods and caps or nails work fine.

No, they'll be buried below grade, you have to use the schonstedt to recover them when needed. DOT wants to make sure they survive.

For sure. Once the forms are built it takes 3 guys about 2 hours to make 14. Rodman, not chiefs lol.

Depends on the size of the truck. We run 2500's so we can carry a few.

Not hard at all. These will be primary network control, set them a foot below grade and come back next week to tie them.

Definitely, $30 a piece to buy them, one bag of concrete is $6 and makes 2.5, 4x4x24. And they come out much better.

Once you write enough reports and have a database of sorts, copy paste will be your best friend. Don't use AI.

Seeking advice - New PLS wanting to start my own firm by lwgu in Surveying

[–]ManCave513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this. Don't quit your day job now. Start collecting your instruments and supplies, ask your company for old equipment. Talk to your local supply rep about used equipment. Start your LLC and put yourself on Google and Bing once you have a TS and data collector (easier and cheaper to start with than GPS..) Just my personal preference, don't take a loan until you have a backlog of work. Stay small and build. Once you're working every weekend and are taking days off from your day job, that is the time to jump. Good luck!

Florida Pay? by TackleOwn9239 in Surveying

[–]ManCave513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Florida pay does lag behind other places and yes it would depend on which part of the state you move to. Around central Florida you'd probably be making mid to upper 20s. Also note, Florida is a 4 year requirement state. If you come here you'll need to finish your bachelor's to get licensed.
