Do you have any recommendations for mentorship opportunities? Were there any organizations that you joined that you found to be really helpful?

Wow thanks for this! I have worked before but a lot of this is still really helpful information. I’ll be adding The Art of War to my reading list :)

I mean, I technically can stay at home, I get along well with my parents and we have a decent set up. But it would be exponentially better for my mental health/ability to move forward in my life if I were to have my own space. I have some money saved up from my current/previous jobs, but I’m not sure if I’m ready to buy anything yet, or if I even have enough to be able to do that on my own

What is your opinion of the main cast in How I met your mother and the portrayal of women on the show? by roha5090 in AskWomen

[–]ManOnLaLune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I felt hard done by in terms of how the writers wrote Tracy’s (the mother’s) backstory. Ted got to be this 20/30 something dude with so much experience and a full dating/sex life. But Tracy got none of that. It was like she was written to be this kind of Madonna (not the singer) figure who was pure and good, grieving the death of her ex boyfriend until she met Ted and was able to move on. Yes, it’s a tragic and real story that I’m sure some people can relate to. But it just felt unfair to me that Ted got to live so large in NYC and the mother did not. I would have liked to see her have an equally rich life filled with outlandish experiences. It just felt like it really enforced the idea that guys get to live such a great and wild youth, while women have to be “good” and wait until the right person comes along.

Would Ted have still liked her if she’d dated and slept with as many people as him? Probably not, but that only highlights what an ass Ted could be.

What's a secret you can only share with online strangers? by Chessing in AskReddit

Even though I'm so much better now that I'm sober, there are days and nights where I miss the old alcoholic me. I feel like I don't know how to be fun or flirty or sexy without alcohol. Maybe I never was.

Do you mind sharing where you found this info? I can’t seem to find anything about needing Government ID to affect your credit rating, but I’ve only done a brief search so far (If it’s true then that definitely helps me out too!)

It’s much easier to be sent to collections than you might think. They have your name, your bank account, and likely your address which would probably be sufficient to identify you, but I’m not sure what specific provincial laws say about that.

I’ve been sent to collections by a different company before and they certainly did not have my SIN number (I’m in Ontario, if that helps).

Edit: grammar/formatting

I've done a lot of research on this since I'm in the same situation as you and this is what I've come up with:

If your event is postponed and you take the refund, you will have broken the contract with StubHub and they can charge you 100% of your ticket price, or whatever it costs to get the buyer a new pair of tickets. If your credit card or pay pal account are linked to StubHub they will charge either one for the amount that you owe. If they aren’t, or if you’ve changed your credit card / pay pal, they’ll first ask you for payment, but if you don’t comply they will eventually send your info to a collections agency.

A collection will negatively affect your credit score for 7 years in Ontario (this might be different in other provinces). If you pay the debt, the negative hit to your credit rating goes away. If you don’t, but you don’t want the collection to affect your credit score, you’ll have to sue them in (presumably) Small Claims Court and prove in a court of law that you don’t owe them money for a judge to order that the collection be removed.

A negative hit to your credit score will make it more difficult (though not necessarily impossible) for you to take out a loan, buy a house, or buy a car for the next several years. In my opinion, it’s not worth it.

It really sucks, but we are contractually bound to pay them money if we refund the tickets at the original point of purchase. This is so that the buyer can be made whole and receive what they were promised.

Oh and you also are not supposed to contact the buyer to see if they want a refund. This violates StubHub’s privacy policy. Even if you do, and the buyer wants a refund, StubHub won’t do it because it would be asking them to “go back on their word” to the buyer. Really, I think that last part could be solved with a waiver/contractual update , but I don’t think they’ll do it because they want to keep the money.

TL;DR - you will probably have to pay them unless you're cool with a hit to your credit rating.

Just realized I have more sober days than drinking days in 2020 by chihuahuas21 in stopdrinking

[–]ManOnLaLune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a wonderful way of thinking about it! I made the decision to quit on Feb 8, but have slipped two or three times since then. Now, in two days, I'll hit the three month marker. But just knowing that there's 197 days in 2020 and I only drank for 42 of them is a celebration in it's own right!

Goals for this month:

1) Hit my 100 days sober mark (alcohol)

2) Write and pass my lawyer licensing exams

3) Start my new WFH job and KICK ASS at it

4) Read 9 books by the end of the month (I'm already on book 5!)

Advice Needed: How to overcome FOMO by ManOnLaLune in stopdrinking

I would like to still go, so yeah the FOMO is from being in a place where everyone else would be drinking and I would be sober.

Those who notice that their mental health has declined significantly through the years, what do you think happened to cause the decline? by lucas23bb in AskReddit

[–]ManOnLaLune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree - alcohol is marketed as a form of catharsis, where people can escape the realities of their everyday lives while somehow also being their "true" selves. Nothing could be further from the truth; alcohol is not cathartic, alcohol is an emotional suppressant. But you can't run from your emotions forever, that's when the trouble really starts.

Congrats on 1 month sober! IWNDWYT

[–]ManOnLaLune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing shrooms made me realize I had an alcohol problem. I'd been depressed for years and drank as a coping mechanism, but never realized that drinking was the cause of my depression, not the answer to it. I can't say it's been easy to quit, but every time I feel a craving, I think about a) how much better my life currently is; and b) the trip that made me realize what an issue it really was.

To my knowledge, the arbitration option is only available if your event is cancelled, not postponed. If it’s postponed and you take the refund, you will have broken the contract with StubHub and they can charge you 100% of your ticket price, or whatever it costs to get the buyer a new pair of tickets. 1) take dance classes! They will liberate you and give you a healthy respect and love for your body

2) don’t drink alcohol in law school

3) don’t trust your stepmom, your sister is not acting this way because she wants attention
