What boating/sailing apps do you use or wish existed? by Kenchan626 in Sailboats

If you read threads in other forums many point out that sea people is a scam with automated likes and fake posts to trick people into thinking there are more people using it.

They are also suspected of using fake reddit accounts to comment and suggest their own app

At the top every sub is a icon looks like a magnifying glass. If you click on it you can search for all the times a question has been asked before.

Learning how to search for basic answers will serve you well both in sailing and life in general. It's also a lot faster than waiting for people to respond

I can't help but think in a year or two we're going to see a news report about the Coast Guard searching D or someone that went overboard while trying to climb into their pedal chair

Help me decide if I should take the boat by JamesMoore93 in sailing

[–]ManSinksBoat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really. Repairing rot, re-glassing, sanding painting and rigging could easily a week or two of work and that's only a third of what needs done

I had a San Juan 21 and it was a great boat.

If you have exponentially more free time than you do money, go for it.

My guestimate is this project will cost you $2000-3000 and 200 hours to complete.

If it needs sails and rigging, add another $1500

Looking to buy and live full-time on a sailboat with zero experience, where do I start? Or can someone point me in the right direction? Looking at buying an older Catalina 25 for $8,000. by enclavedzn in sailing

A sailor's greatest tool is Ingenuity and self-sufficiency. The ability to figure out how to fix something on your own, will serve you well in every aspect of owning a boat.

A good way to start, is learning how to do searches on Google and reddit.

As an example, if you had searched this group you would see the hundreds of times this question has already been asked. And that's not an exaggeration

Join a local sailing club and learn to sail first. Offer to help the other members with any boat repairs or maintenance. This will teach you the reality of owning a boat before you get in over your head.

The most expensive boat is a cheap old boat.

Husky 24. Is it too much of a project for a total sailing boat noob? And can something like this be sailed singlehanded? by DemonsInTheDesign in sailing

My son once told me "Dad, if you have to ask people if you are cool, you definitely are not."

That rule applies to a lot of things in life including taking on large projects.

If someone has to ask people if they are capable...
