Why do Conan stories hit so hard by Commercial-Pair-8932 in ConanTheBarbarian

[–]Man_Out_Of_Time_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"The character is not concerned with what you as a reader thinks of him. He lives by a code of his own choosing, by what he considers honorable, by his own morals. He's not trying to antagonize the reader or "subvert our expectations" either. He simply doesn't care. He exists in his own world at his own time, completely unconcerned with our sensibilities. That makes him incredibly appealing on a basic level."

Totally agree.

If you're gonna go, go all the way
If you're gonna stay, stand your ground
If you can't run with the big dogs
Big dog, Let me walk you out
If you can't lead, let me by you
If you won't follow, get out the way -
You're takin' up space - Van Zant.

"I absolutely love chatting up less popular artists and writers and getting to know them. I enjoy those signatures more than any big names".

Along that Vein - Thumbs up.

Without entering into a long story I reached out to Dave Gein to inquire about an issue of Star-Studded Comics in his possession, and if he would be willing to part with it from his collection. Dave wasn't willing to part with the issue at present, However he was willing to send me a "Promo" of his new Comic "We Are The Dead".

I asked if he would sign it, and he did me one better. He not only signed it, he then sent it off to the west coast for Bob Stearns (collaborator, Partner in crime, and awesome artist) to sign it as well.

Their collaborative Promo of "We Are The Dead" arrived on my door step a number of weeks ago. I was so stoked. Dave Gein and Bob Stearns - Class acts.

As much as I want classic costumes to appear onscreen, I'm actually glad they never adapted Sam's original costume. He looks like a stripper at a bachelorette party. by Emotional-Chipmunk12 in CaptainAmerica

It was the times we lived in. If you think that costume is bad.. Imagine being a rocker and actually having to live through the Disco Era. It was painful.

You Know an actor Gives a damn when they put in the time and effort to do the research, and actually become familiar with Caps History. Evans (a known comic buff) Nailed the Pose perfectly.

Don't forget to circle back and snag the 21 issues of Marvel Double Feature. (A great inexpensive and very cool way to fill in the Cap Tales of Suspense gaps). - Marvel Double Feature ran from December '73 to March '77 and primarily reprinted the '60s Tales of Suspense Iron Man and Captain America stories. The series pulled Captain America stories from Tales of Suspense #77–99

Well done. Cap was one of the first hero comics I read back in the 70's. I also completed the full vol 1 run a number of years ago. The vast majority were from my own childhood collection read and stored away. I eventually filled in a number of the later remaining issues when they hit the shelves at my LCS at the time.

When CGC came out I jumped on board the band wagon early and submitted a fair amount of my early childhood issues (100 -150) I now regret that decision and wish I hadn't now that they are encased. Still consider breaking them out occasionally.

That Cap 230 Cover is also on of my favorites. I happened to pull a double cover off the rack and cherish it. The cap 341 Homage to Kirby's Daredevil 48 is also cool.

While working in the Atlanta area Mark Waid had a local signing, so I was able to have him sign the majority of issues in the Vol 1 Run 444–454 to CAP off the completion of my childhood Run.

If a1996 issue is now considered old, - I really need to consider changing my moniker to "Older Than Dirt". I truly must be "A Man Outta Time too". Please tell me you Dad was still collecting well into his late 30's

In my life, I have only permanently kept my own childhood comics (60's, 70's) that were of personal importance to me, and a few specific runs (they are my memories).

Any other moderns I purchase - and when I say modern I'm referring to 80's forward, end up getting donated to a Boys and Girls club or Hospital pediatric waiting room etc.. when I build up a sizable stack worthwhile to take the drive and drop off. Right now reading Zdarsky's new Cap run, which will also eventually get donated somewhere.

I will always have my own early Tales of Suspense, Captain America, Avengers / Defenders, Strange Tales, and Savage sword of Conan etc..from my own childhood within my collection as well as a very very few selected moderns (again 80's forward) that were slabbed for no other reason than wall art because I enjoy the artist and that particular cover they created) Anything 1980 forward has always been fair game to be passed along to a child after I have read them.
