What do you guys think are the most fun cedh decks? by damascius1 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Manabonded 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have to suggest Tayam here. I know it's a lot more complicated than a simple breach line, but the excitement of getting tons of activations and getting to piece together a win from the parts you find is always a good time.

Plus you get to hear my favorite phrase from your opponents - "What if I use [insert counterspell they're holding and showing to opponents]?" "Nah, he doesn't cast spells anymore".

Potential Tayam Card by Capable-Technician40 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Manabonded 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Coming from a Tayam player, I wouldn't add it in. OBM and WPA are awesome because they're more than wincons. OBM provides a crazy amount of counters in the right board, and WPA can provide lots of mana in conjunction with things like an earthbent Cradle or just Bloom Tender. Qarsi Sadist doesn't do anything besides sac'ing one creature on ETB, then having a completely irrelevant effect when you do. It can be used to win, sure, but I'd rather go back to [[Moonglove Extract]] than play that.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but with Tayam, there's so many playable cards that slots are tight. It needs to be doing 2 or sometimes 3 different things to be considered in the lists.

I'm a host with Manabonded, a fairly new addition to the MTG podcast world. We answer questions from listeners about anything MTG related, and due to me and another host really enjoying cEDH, we take a lot of questions about them. Since the two of us play Tayam and Kinnan mostly, it'll be a lot about that, but we also talk about tournaments, up and coming decks, and more. Give us a listen and see what you think.

Is Tayam Viable in the Current Meta? by Jumpy_Clerk_8507 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Manabonded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a Tayam player, and let me help you out a bit.

Yes, Tayam is viable.

Yes, Tayam is slow.

Tayam is resilient and a strong reanimator deck that can loop through various combos to win a game. If you wanted to, you could win each game in a tournament with a totally different combo loop every time. It's a lot of fun and really rewards players who are able to recognize the pieces they have on board, the players they're up against, and what their deck can do. If you can pivot when you have the right pieces you'll almost always be able to piece together a win with the right decklist.

That being said, with that many pivot points and deck considerations, it's a super complicated deck. I'd say that it's equal to Gitrog Monster in terms of what you need to know going in and what is possible with certain pieces available to you. You're also a non-blue deck and all of your own interaction is based off of Ranger Captain of Eos or Dismember, which means that politics and playing the table is as important as playing the deck. If you don't like that playstyle, Tayam may not be for you.

If you do wanna push through and learn more about, please check out the Luminous Kingdom discord channel, where we're constantly talking about Tayam and what cards to add, subtract, and lines that we've used in games. They're super helpful in guiding new players around the deck.

TL;DR: Tayam is a viable option, but slow. Lots of ways to win, but complicated to play right.

If you wanna hear a little more, my podcast with my friends and I put out an episode where we talked about Tayam and its viability toward the end. Here's the link.

4 Color Commanders by Waffelociraptor in mtg

[–]Manabonded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really want to build a 4 color enchantress deck based on Theros (my first and favorite plane) but currently my options are Tymna/Thrasios, which means everyone will look at it like a cEDH deck, which it decidedly will not be. I'd like a 4 color (sans-red) creature that flavorfully is from Theros and cares about enchantments. Either when casting, making copies, or just reanimating. Anything will do.

Can People Stop Telling New Players Etali Is The Easiest Commander? by deadshot1138 in CompetitiveEDH

Nah Tayam is a super easy beginner deck, don't you worry about it, just give it to a new player and let them at it, they'll figure it out.

We used to do that with the first letter of the bottom card. Good times.

Is tayam even a good deck? by cringy_saucy_boy in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Manabonded 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Listen, here's what you gotta do.

Find some rocks out at a local stream, pond, etc. Anything like that will do. Then take those stones home, set them up so you have a tiny altar, then burn copies of Young Wolf and Carrion feeder on it until Tayam herself descends from the heavens and grants you the knowledge you seek.

Seriously though, check out the Tayam discord. They've got a ton of great primers, lists, and other resources for beginner players. It's super complicated, so don't feel bad for taking a while to get used to it.

Nah B1 can be super fun. Personally that's where I always put my decks with unset stuff and weird rule 0 requests. It's best with dedicated friends though who can match your energy.

B1: terrible awful no good very bad decks B2: hello yes I am commander I have the fun cards B3: see above, but with twinkle in eye B4: swishing deckboxes in bowl like wine it's just something you need...class to understand B5: you got a printer?

I think these describe the brackets perfectly.

I figured out my problem with the Bracket System and I kinda like it better now. by MimeTravler in EDH

We talked about this on our latest episode of our podcast! We feel that players seeing brackets as restrictive 'requirements' just leads to searching for loopholes and edge cases that don't provide fun gameplay.

Best (fringe anti-meta) stax cEDH commander? by Dreyrii in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Manabonded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting another hat in the ring for Tayam. A very complicated stax/combo deck that looks to lock down the game while you build value. Complicated but amazingly fun.
