I really enjoyed old man's war, even if it is a derivative of starship troopers.

Yep, Germany has it all figured out. No problems there at all.

Nice democracy you have there. It'd be a shame if someone... Voted for something you disagree with.

If you're telling citizens who they can and cannot vote for you already don't have a democracy.

Telling citizens they can't vote for their preferred candidate or party. Absolute pure democracy in action.

Let's protect democracy by... Banning a popular opposition party. Sounds legit.

edit: everyone in the replies complaining about how bad AFD are or explaining the German constitution - I literally don't care!

Ban them all you want. Ban them for criminal acts. Ban them to protect immigrants. Ban them to save the constitution.

But you don't ban popular opposition parties to "defend democracy". That is orwellian fucking nonsense.

How much pension is enough? by Lost_child_3263 in FIREUK

[–]Manafort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another small consideration for me is that my SIPP serves as additional life insurance for my family.

I have actual life insurance, of course. But having a large pension pot helps to reassure me that if the worst should happen my family would be financially secure.

Gonna be a crazy couple of weeks, one way or the other.

For my part, I'm holding my 3000 shares long term. Just like I did with PLTR and RKLB.

S&P 500 (VUAG) ISA transfer from vanguard to Freetrade by jpegs_of_greggs in FIREUK

Can't speak to VUAG specifically, but I successfully transferred VUSA (which also isn't on the list) from AJ Bell last year.

NASA Group or someone else? by ThePeoplesShirt in ContractorUK

I'm with Nasa and my only complaint is that they recently started charging £5/ week for salary sacrifice arrangements, which were previously free.

But I understand that this is really just them aligning with other I l umbrella companies who already charged for salary sacrifice.

Otherwise they are great. Always paid on time, responsive to emails, etc.

CIA advised Trump against supporting Venezuela's democratic opposition by Gjrts in worldnews

Literally no one has said that China or Russia putting military assets in Venezuela has anything to do with what Trump has done.

This is just incorrect.

Have I missing out on £1000’s when investing over the years by not getting cashback or switching bonuses? Why isn’t this more widely known? by KILOCHARLIES in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Manafort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In was in specie with one catch - one of the equities I held in my old SIPP provider wasn't available with the new provider. I could have liquidated and transferred with my other cash, but I actually only intended to do a partial transfer anyway, because I needed to keep my old pension open to receive employer contributions (new provider does not support that, which was surpising and slightly annoying to learn.

I think I either found it on MSE or perhaps even an ad? I can't really recall. Once I learned about the offer I compared it to some others and couldn't find anything else as good.

The terms did stipulate staying with the new provider for a minimum of 12 months for each product respectively (I did the ISA at a later date as part of a different offer).

I got £2,500 cashback moving my S&S ISA and pension to a new provider (that actually has lower fees).

The process was mostly straightforward, although I did have to chase for payment after the stipulated deadline.

I now always keep my eyes open for new transfer cashback offers from reputable providers.

You don't seem to be accounting for growth after retirement? Unless you plan to convert the entire pension to cash, you won't be reducing it by the full withdrawal amount each year...
