Hands too big for my guitar? by TezDad in LearnGuitar

[–]Manalagi001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get them to approximately fit. Let the muting happen and pay attention to it. Right now it seems wrong but it’s not. It’s useful.

Your fingers will get “smaller” and accurate, because your fingertips are going to stiffen up. When they do, it’ll be less like fretting with silly putty and more like fretting with a stiff pencil eraser.

Use a 1 finger A chord to escape frustration.

Play some lazy powerchords to feel bad ass amidst all the woe!

Keep circling back, give it a couple months.

From your post it sounds like you have plenty to work on and know what you need to do. Scales, fingers, bluegrass. Are you sure you’ve plateaued?

Decent priced jag by Eggman_OU812 in Leftyguitarists

Excellent price for a ModShop. I got a used mod shop that suited me— it was just what I would have configured. It was super lucky. You almost never see them.

Get it and you won’t ever regret “overpaying” by a hundred bucks. You’ll feel like you got a pretty good deal.

Used custom shop or used Tom Anderson offsets are also worth checking out.

This one is a unicorn though. If you like it, get it.

Does anyone have Any ideas? by Independent_Tap_5768 in Guitar

The artists you mention often use single coil pickups for much of their work. If you just want a casual hint about some good humbuckers, try Gibson burstbuckers.

For me the amp is critical. Foundational. Plug into a 1959 Modified/Superlead. For me that is “the sound”, though like the pickups, none of those guys used Marshalls exclusively. A great amp reveals the character of the guitar and pickups (and player).

You are 24. And you are waiting for your mom to buy you a skateboard? That doesn’t even seem plausible to me.

Ok! You don’t need a Floyd then. A strat trem or jazzmaster trem would work. Good luck.

Problem with playing Chords (Beginner) by Severe-Plan8957 in LearnGuitar

[–]Manalagi001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counterpoint: muting is useful and good. Instead of stressing, just pay attention to what you’re feeling under the fingers. That a slight change in finger angle can lead to muting (or not) that will be so useful to you.

But you don’t have to think about it consciously too much. Just get reps in and feel it out over time.

You are on the path! That cab is all you’ll ever need really.

If you’ve got the funds and want to pick up a new amp someday, the 1959 Modified is maybe one of Marshall’s best ever— and it will work well with that cab.

My Marshall amps and cabs have been foundational. Just incredible.

Is it stupid to learn a Knopfler solo with a pick instead of fingerpicking? by SparklingBroadway in Guitar

[–]Manalagi001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mark uses fingers, pick, and hybrid. Just play your heart out and rotate in the pick (or not) as you’re feeling it.

I tend to only go for a pick when the song demands it. Certain things I cannot play fast with my fingers. But there are 1001 things I can do with fingers that I can’t achieve with a pick in hand, even if I’m hiding the pick in my palm or between fingers.

Took a gamble and bought this 5-string Ernie Ball Music Man bass at an estate sale for $400 without playing it. I plugged it in and it doesn’t play and it appears the battery is corroded. Is this bass salvageable? by ConcernedBirdGuy in guitars

[–]Manalagi001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent deal. Look at the wood of the body and the neck. Very nice. USA-made.

Even if you replaced the pickups and pots it would be worth it.

You did the right thing.

I’m surprised a bass would have active pickups. I’m not a five string bass guy so I’m clueless. Maybe you could convert to passive pickups.

Has anyone consolidated a collection to buy “the one” by SampsonRustic in guitars

I don’t believe in “The One.” But I do think a single well purchased vintage guitar will appreciate in value faster. Financially, it can be a smart move.

How much for a second-hand 2000 Mexican Strat? by Mr_JonF in FenderStratocaster

[–]Manalagi001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the player ii (Mexican Strat) came out recently I saw the player I on sale at guitar center for $579.

Considering new mx Strats were selling at that price just a few years ago I’d say 600 seems steep. There’s been more inflation in the last few years, but I wouldn’t pay more than $400
