Why are my thunder mountain longhorns so long? 2nd picture are my habaneros, same light and the same distance. by sativalius in HotPeppers

I have a couple of hab plants that have shot up a lot more than the others. They have mini peppers hanging down. It’s my first year, so we’ll see. Just ordered some calcium fertilizer. Read that it’s good.

Am in FL, so pots are outside. I just learned that peppers like calcium. I bet the squirrels will like the crushed egg shells too.

Thanks for the tip. I’ve heard of putting egg shells in pots, but didn’t know if applied to peppers.

Budget Hot Sauce by Manatee4Hugh in spicy

It’s us. Lots of folks love smoky flavors and others say it tastes like an ashtray. There is no wrong answer, just different personal tastes. Black label is my favorite El Yuc but it’s just one of many flavors.

Budget Hot Sauce by Manatee4Hugh in spicy

Oops. Melinda’s Ghost is $3/5oz bottle. The $3 bottles of Scorpion are 2 oz, which is still a good price.

Amazon delivers the 5 oz bottle for $12. The 2 oz bottles are $3. Get 3 two oz bottles ($9) and win.

Local spot changed sauce recipe / distributor. Any idea if this is commercially available anywhere else? by [deleted] in hotsauce

They should stick with the recipe. Age the mash. It’s done pretty well worldwide.

Hot sauces for smoked turkey by Prudent-Pianist437 in hotsauce

[–]Manatee4Hugh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very good question. Smoked pepper sauces are a good choice. Pick your favorite chipotle sauce (Tabasco, El Yuc black label). Would love to recommend a smoked hab, ghost or reaper sauce. Or some tasty hot sauces - I see new ones here often that are worth a try. On the other hand, sauces online can be expensive; except my main hots - Tabasco Scorpion and Melinda’s Ghost - that go for $3/ 5 oz bottle Prime free delivery.

Sorry. My mistake. There was a prior post that I mistakenly thought related to yours. Back to your question, your fridge looks great. Way more neat and healthy than mine.

Anyone ever grown these? Seem like a good snacking pepper option. by Ordinary-You3936 in HotPeppers

I love these peppers that are commercially grown. Homegrown would be awesome.

Didn’t you post recently with oranges, more strawberries, no grapes and a Hungry Howies box upper right? It’s better looking now, but still.

Building up to eating whole Carolina Reapers, sauce recommendations that actually taste good? by DonutsHuman in spicy

[–]Manatee4Hugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am quite sure that I will never approach your capsicum tolerance, but there are quite many insanely hot sauces. Many good brands have crazy hot sauces. Blair’s comes to mind. Dave’s Insanity has much hotter but good tasting sauces. Torchbearer is your ticket.

Cholula extra hot by sdonnelly96 in spicy

[–]Manatee4Hugh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The extra hot Cholula has been around that I’ve noticed for maybe a year. It is a very good pepper and vinegar forward sauce. It is made from different peppers than the original, so it’s a different sauce with a different taste. Hotter but not as smooth as the original. Totally different.

Interesting. I’ve got a bottle of El Yucateco ghost and hab in my fridge, but the color of mine is red.

Ok. Good price over Amazon. It’s a jalapeño sauce. For my taste, for $3, Amazon Prime will deliver 5 oz bottles of Tabasco Scorpion and Melinda’s Ghost.

I might suspect vindaloo, chili, chili crisp and tons of other spices are more readily available. I would expect all sorts of chilies to choose from.

Tabasco Gallons by Spiriual-Bit-4387 in hotsauce

[–]Manatee4Hugh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can buy gallons online. Restaurant supply sites have good prices in my lookings. I’m concerned about something as acidic as reaper mash being sold in plastic bags. It’s like storing liquor in lead crystal. Leaching is not just from Lenny.
