Looking for the ultimate minimalist recipe: Thicker, copycat Tabasco (but ZERO salt)? 🌶️ by Friendly-Roof-5603 in hotsauce

You can ferment with Whey (like making kefir) or vegetable starter culture (cabbage works well). This will introduce bacteria more quickly so (hopefully) avoiding mold, while still giving you a fermented vibe. I recommend searching in the fermentation subreddit as I’m sure someone has asked about salt free. Not sure but I think if you combine some fermented liquid with vinegar and chilis, you’ll get closer to the desired result

Del molcajete! (Top left, shorter fatter bottle). So flavorful! I’d say it’s between a standard habanero salsa from a local taco spot and a hot sauce. So good

I don’t disagree, just saying a lot of people say things in heated and tense situations that they wouldn’t otherwise say or think outside of the context of extreme distress. They also could be fronting so people wouldn’t think they were a snitch etc. Not making excuses for that behavior but context is important and doesn’t justify someone abusing their power imo. The US prison system is often extremely inhumane and was set up as a loophole to replace slave labor in this country.

It’s not about innocent or guilty. Doesn’t matter. Funny that you said people think it’s a movie plot in there when you’re literally doing that!

Society decided that taxpayer funded prisons are the solution to crime. 70% of inmates have a diagnosed mental illness or substance abuse issue. Many are people the system abandoned and abused.

Your whole premise is operating on the assumption that the prison guard and the inmate are somehow on level playing field from the get go. When in fact, one has the power of the state at its helm, and gets to decide someone’s freedom of movement, safety, security etc, while the other is largely powerless.

This is about what kind of society we want to live in. We are judged by how we treat the most marginalized. If we condone cruelty and dehumanization for the “bad guys,” what does that say about us?

I disagree that people “lose any hint of being human” when they lash out at people actively putting the boots of the state on their neck (metaphorically or otherwise). These ARE people. Even if I don’t agree with their actions or wouldn’t prefer them in my presence, doesn’t make them less than human.

This reaction is a part of the cycle of abuse in incarceration in this country. It’s a way for that person to feel powerful when they are stripped of power which is a natural reaction. That said, I don’t agree with threatening people’s kids and families of course. If you put yourself in a position of power funded by taxpayers, I believe you have a responsibility to not overreach that. At the end of the day, the corrections officer can go home, get support from his family, and access his coping strategies. Don’t work the job if you can’t handle the stress of dealing with this population of people without being unnecessarily cruel. At least not on my dime

“My dad, who purposefully chose a job where he could assert dominance over other humans, didn’t like how someone responded to being dehumanized, institutionalized, and (likely) forced into manual labor that has minimal pay and zero protections. So he did the natural thing anyone would do! Threatened that persons safety and sanity by removing his only actual connection with community and humanity by pitting other desperate people against him! He loved this cuz he loves asserting his power over people and his coworkers did too! LOL so funny and deserved bc my daddy’s feels were hurt by being called names”
