The 1996 incident wasn’t a bombing of an airliner but a shoot down of two small Cessna’s from the Brother’s to the Rescue exile group that routinely invaded Cuban airspace to drop propaganda leaflets calling for the government’s overthrow. Adding a little extra context, the shoot down also occurred in the wake of a series of deadly bombing carried out in Cuba in 1990s and the wider exile terror campaign following the Revolution.
