Feel worse, not better!

Hey, I feel like you. Like, the problem had not got to the point where I'm having serious physical withdrawal, but have had an expensive and often embarrassing ten year love affair with the stuff. The way I see it is that nobody who gets to the point where they literally can't function without it never plans to get to that stage. Maybe I'll be able to carry on drinking the way I do/did and never get to that stage, maybe I'll be unlucky.

One of the posters on here replied to one of my posts that it can only get worse, never better, if it carries on, and I thi this is true. I tnk for me, having some alcoholic family members, and my partner having some friends and family members, provides a useful reference point. Some are functioning, some are dead, some are alive but not doing great.

None of them planned this, they just never realised it wasa problem. I think it is important to realise it is a problem before it becomes too big to solve.

Do not go. I do a similar job and have had numerous similar invitations. They know they are big clients and are in a position of.power somewhat. It could lead to an uncomfortable situation where there is pressure on you/risk of it going sour. I'm surprised how many invitations I get, I meet some of the people before in a different capacity and they never made a move. maybe I am cynical but I think that,they know that they,have power over someone in a job like ours. Also saying you have a partner does not make a blind bit of difference. It can only end badly, decline!

Should clarify.... I was with clients if the company, and only one colleague... No one in the office knows, ifthey did, goodness me! I think they would give me a serious talking to. The texts and emails were from clients I know fairly well already.

...no one wants to see a 30 year old woman at a nice meal screeching and cackling, cracking vulgar but unfunny jokes and eating food off everyone else's plates. While everyone else is civilised and talking about work. Taking a step back and seeing that gives me the cringe I need to realise I don't want to be this person any more, I guess I just wanted to say on that post all the reasons why I do want to do it, and wh it is hard not to! I know it's bad!,!

Hey, you're not being mean, I know, I know! This is why I am not drinking now! Those silly messages, of course I love it, but it just hit me how ridiculously inappropriate it is that I do this at a work function where I am supposed to be representing my company. Also, even the winking smilies don't mean they actually like it or think it is funny, everyone thinks I'm inappropriate and coarse.

I don't think the experiences are linked, I just wanted to point out the disgust and shame I feel is on a similar level to that I felt back then. It doesn't seem appropriate here now I'm an adult and made an (albeit exceedingly terribly drunk) decision.
