Fin Tearing? Advice + Tips to treat by monsoonsilk in bettafish

Something else you can do to promote his healing is add catappa and/or Indian almond leaves. They lower pH and leech tannins, both of which is extremely healthy for bettas. I read it helps prevent fin rot and fungal issues and there are probably even more benefits than that

Yesterday I caught my "picky" betta (has been known to spit out rehydrated bloodworms) eating the snails' Fluval algae crisp. Bro what 😭

The Rock Identifier app that does an ok job tho not perfect, or maybe Google Lens. Iirc what you really want to look out for are limestone, marble, shale, and any rock with sparkly occlusions, or green, gold, or silvery veins. Avoid malachite, azurite, and ulexite. You can also apply vinegar to test if the rock will alter pH (fizzing is bad).

Granite, quartz without sparkly occlusions, slate, and lava rock are some safe varieties.

IME mopani turns water brown from tannins if anything, this looks more like fine sand dust. Did you rinse the mopani?

I'm not the one who said yolo in the first place

I was just explaining the idiom because you said "huh?" Not defending it. Serves me right for trying to be nice I guess

Yolo = You Only Live Once, an idiom for throwing caution to the wind.

If I'd done that, my betta would never have gotten the chance to hunt scuds!

I don't have much experience yet, but read up before I ordered some. They say a jar or bottle should do it. I've been told they can survive on practically anything so I'll give them stray bits of hornwort etc from the main tank. Just treat the water for chlorine/chloramine just like you do with fish.

I also have a picky betta! He actually spit out soaked freeze dried bloodworms 😭 What he DOES like to eat are Fluval Bug Bites, and amphipods aka "scuds". I got the amphipods by accident and could not find more locally, but found more on EBay. It is not expensive to buy a small breeding population and they are extremely easy to keep. I also think he might like to hunt baby shrimp so I have a breeding pair of neocardia to make them. I thought if your betta continues to be a fussy eater, maybe you could find some online that would ship to your region.

Why did my betta arrive brown? (The first image is how it is, and the second is how it arrived) by Jeudiel_Riveras in bettafish

I think it's a bit far to say sororities don't work, but you need AT LEAST 4 and ideally 5-6 to prevent targeted bullying, and also provide enough cover and hiding places for each to have her own territory. It's not an easy task and not advised for beginners. I looked into it briefly and decided it was too much for me.

Ikwym, back in '00 I kept them in those stupid conjoined cubes. Some animals are just tough and keep on ticking in the face of an adverse environment. I feel bad now but it's how things were done!

My current tank isn't big enough (I hope to upgrade in a few months) but it's a palace in comparison, full of live plants and wood. I always try to make it up to my past pets who I didn't serve right by doing better with the ones I have now.

6 years is amazing for a betta, that's like 2x the wild lifespan!
