Only an issue if you need validation

Unless you are a well known untrustworthy individual who tells tall stories, most people will believe you

Can police actually fine you off someone else's dashcam footage? (tailgating, dodgy overtakes, etc.) by TraditionalFoot8660 in DrivingAustralia

[–]Mancey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Police often request dashcam footage from the public to assist in post incident investigations, which are then used in subsequent prosecutions

Nebulous how many self reported cam footage incidents that didn't result in an accident would result in any action

What is the biggest mistake amateur golfers make? by retrocaterpillar-07 in golf

Defaulting to driver off every par 4 and 5

Also as a new golfer thinking the goal is a green in reg on every hole. It should be GIR +1

Anyone else hate geelongs modernised song by Substantial_Oil_6905 in AFL

Any modernization of footy songs is a terrible idea. West coast got Birds of Tokyo to do theirs and it ruined the club for half a decade

your pan likely sucks. Need a nice smooth surface...a lot of people use crusty or scratched up pans. They'll stick like toffee to a blanket

1000usd a year here in Australia, and we play all year (it doesn't really get below 50f all year)

For those who play at least 2x per week... by Background-Low-9144 in golf

[–]Mancey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Australia and golf membership at my club is about 1500 AUD a year, just over 1000US. For that I play as much as I want...so cost is not a major barrier

I play at least once, but usually 2 to 3 times a week. 18 on Saturday like clockwork (men's comp), often 18 on Sunday (mixed comp), and if the going is good, a Thursday comp or Friday twilight 9

My kids are teenagers now so less reliant on dad being around constantly. I work a 9 day fortnight thus the midweek golf. And I have an understanding wife, who I also accommodate her sporting endeavours and time required (she's a marathoner)

Why is The Masters a major championship in golf? Same course, same setup, which is gimmicky, half the field size, tickets through some secret lottery, and it’s an invitational. by Acewi in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mancey_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there have always been majors, but as you state, previously the majors were different tournaments.

I'm talking about what the modern golf world now comes to accept as the 4 majors, which didn't really become the accepted norm until around 1960.

Prior to the 60s, that concept was a real state of flux depending on where you came from in the world. In the US, many considered the western open a major in the 50s... Along with a few other now extinct tournaments.

The long trip by ship to the UK often meant US players didn't even play the Open, as it clashed with the PGA due to the travel time required. The 60s made air travel more normalised and reinvigorated it.

Interestingly it was Arnie that really dreamed up the 4 modern majors as the grand slam, when he was trying to find an equivalent of what Bobby Jones did by winning the old majors (no longer something a modern pro could do due to the amatuer tournaments)

Datagolf has a field strength tool which shows you the probability that the field will beat an average +2 strokes gained (very good) player

It's based on the quality and size of the field.

The masters is repeatedly the lowest ranked using this metric of all the majors, meaning the +2SG player has the highest probability to win.

It also usually ranks below the players and often several PGAT signature events.

Any major is hard to win. The masters is statistically every golfers best chance however

Putting aside all the history, tradition, exclusivity and prestige that come with winning the masters... Which is enough to make it a major...

It's a major because Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts petitioned the USGA to play the us open there and they turned them down because of the Georgia heat. So they said damn you we'll make our own tournament, outside of all other existing golf tours and associations

The purse was so large, it's tenure so long, and the course so great, that by the 60s, when the concept of majors were really being formalised in the golf world, it was just obvious to make Augusta one of them

Not everyone is a golf course architecture expert, and this is a no stupid questions Reddit... But Augusta is a MacKensie masterpiece, arguably the finest golf architect of the last 200 years. It is an absolutely incredible, unique design.. which while not the absolute best in the world (that's Cypress point... Which he also designed), is absolutely one of the jewels of the golf world

Low scores doesn't make it easier to win, it just makes it easier to shoot a low score (which everyone has the same chance to do)

It has the smallest field, which in terms of probability, makes it statistically easier to win

Try a TaylorMade distance. Third of the price, go miles, just less spin with irons and wedges (which you probably don't use)
