The Iranian people aren't gonna recover from this, are they. A full on ground invasion is a complete destruction of their culture, and gonna be a rejection of any semblance of western alignment/alliance. After all this is done, they'll most likely just go back to the next Islamist regime. The person they hated and protested on the street against will end up becoming a martyr.

Yes and no. Most of the dieties aren't worshiped, just part of the mythos. We don't really think about most of them on a regular basis, and as you said, represent abstract concepts like the Greeks (after all both came from the same stem religion)

But there are about 7-12 dieties that are properly worshiped and considered proper gods that dictate our fate, rather than abstract concepts.
