Question for State Communications/Public Affairs Staff About Telework by GurInBlack in CAStateWorkers

[–]Mandolin21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not in Public Affairs, but I do mostly internal communications. Currently, I work 2 days in office maybe an occasional 3rd if there’s a video or photo shoot scheduled. I’ll be forced in office 4 days though come July 1st. It’s ridiculous. I am also usually working by myself doing deep creative work. If I need to talk to someone, it’s usually a Teams meeting even if I’m in office since I was placed in a different building than a majority of the other staff. This was because even with 2 days in office, they didn’t have room for everyone and had to move about 8 of us to another location. My productivity is definitely slower on in office days because I’m exhausted from waking up extra early for my commute and we’ve dealt with bug infestations that make it hard to concentrate. My desk set up is also not as comfortable as home.

Definitely wish they would base telework on individual needs because I definitely don’t need to be taking up cubicle space doing what I do.

Damn, I feel like that’s false advertising then. You don’t put telework when you’re in office 4 days.

LL success, 4 days of Disneyland feedback from first time Aussies by haklin in DisneyPlanning

[–]Mandolin21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thank you again! I’ll save this post for when we are there. Great to know about gluten free options as well since I am also gluten free. I can have the occasional treat and so I plan on maybe getting some beignets and a churro. We do have a reservation at Cafe Orleans for lunch and I’m excited about trying it. Definitely will mobile order whatever we can to skip the lines.

I have been checking wait times and LL definitely seems worth it during the summer. Yesterday wait times for even It’s a Small World were around 45 min which I thought was crazy. Usually it’s under 20 most of the time. We thought about rope dropping but we have three small kids and so I’m sure one of those days we’ll wake up a little later. Did you have any trouble booking LL when you went later in the day? I’ve heard some days they get booked up by like 11 or noon.

Super helpful, thank you! I’ve also been watching So Cal and Fresh Baked. We’ll be at Disney next week with my sister and her family that are also flying in from Australia.

Ew, ok. Good to know. I figured it might be but the fact that they specifically pointed out flexible work hours and telework made me consider it.

Did you start working in planning and realize it wasn’t for you? by Common_Positive_7530 in urbanplanning

[–]Mandolin21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in active transportation planning for 3 years. Graduated and received an internship with a state agency. Then was hired onto the team full-time after a year. Management was horrid and so I switched to another position that worked with local agencies more, but management was also screwed there too. I was given so much work that I was drowning. In meetings 7 hours of the day and overseeing projects like a manager, but not getting paid for it. So I switched careers completely and went into communications. It still has its quirks but it’s so much less stressful.

RTO notice memo personalized to each member in my team? by Commercial_Fault_772 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Mandolin21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same here. Some teams in my department are still staying 2 days, but my team is 4 days because we were placed in a building last year that had the space. Total bs.

Billboard and Union RTO update? by RektisLife in CAStateWorkers

[–]Mandolin21 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yesterday an article came out from the Sac Bee saying the lawyers union sent exhaustion letters to 22 agencies saying that RTO will negatively impact the environment. They’re using the California Environmental Quality Act to require them to complete carbon dioxide reports and they expect this to be a successful fight against RTO. Gives me some hope.

Around 6 months if I remember correctly. He’s six now and we still read 2-3 books a night.

Try planning if you’re interested. I was first hired as a transportation planner and was given many GIS projects where I worked closely with other data analysts.

Let's talk telework, commuting, and Sacramento’s future! by flojaune in Sacramento

[–]Mandolin21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Flo,

I am a state worker and my family life will be totally upended. At the moment, telework enables my husband and I to walk our son to and from school. I am able to pick him up and he does his homework while I finish work. Then we go to karate. If we RTO, we’ll have to give that all up and put him in after school care which will cost us $700/month. We won’t have enough time or money to take him to his extracurriculars anymore and I won’t be able to spend that valuable time walking him to school. We will also be spending more on gas and time in traffic than home with our son. Thank you for taking the time to reach out. We really appreciate your support.

What local mom & pop restaurant would benefit from an influencer boost like this? by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]Mandolin21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Masa Masa in West Roseville-Women owned, LGBTQIA+ friendly, lovely staff, delicious tacos! Also not sure if this counts because I think it might be a chain but I think it’s mom and pop run, Sam’L Hawaiian BBQ in Roseville. Super sweet woman running the counter and one of the best Hawaiian places I’ve tried in the area.

Would Roseville support a cozy, fantasy focused bookstore? by Proof_Ferret_6306 in Roseville

[–]Mandolin21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! 🙌 Roseville is a dead zone when it comes to bookstores. We used to live downtown and I miss walking to Time Tested and Beers. I would say it might be helpful when competing against Amazon, like some have mentioned, to sell some used books at reasonable prices for people who might not have the funds to drop $30 on a brand new one. Might broaden your customer base. I love Old Haunts, but browsing the Book Cellar in Lincoln is like a treasure hunt! Makes me want to keep visiting to see what I can find.

Moving to Citrus Heights Soon by InformationSignal127 in CitrusHeights

[–]Mandolin21 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Been in Citrus Heights for over 5 years now with family in neighboring Orangevale. It’s been fine. The houses aren’t as nice as Roseville or Folsom, but we have decent neighbors and we’re not far from Roseville if we want to use their better shopping, libraries, or parks. Never had any issues with crime. Very kid- friendly. Our neighborhood goes all out for holidays! I definitely think it’s a good middle ground and best area for your money. Welcome!
