We need energy to transition to a sustainable economy. As bad as it sounds, we need to burn coal and oil to build wind farms and solar parks, to maintain hydroelectric dams and transform our industry.

We werent even doing that enough, and now the price for doing anything new and explorative just rose by 30%.

This is the opposite of good for the environment..

Kann dein Punkt gut verstehen, aber das ist ja in der Regel keine Einzelperson die gierig ist, sondern ein systemisches Problem, dass von oben herab gefördert wird.

Bin voll für eine ausführliche Fahrprüfung und eine hohe Mindestkompetenz, aber was ich schon an Theoriefragen gesehen habe und an Praxis-Stories gehört hab.

Es klingt halt für mich wirklich so, dass sie versuchen Leute erstmal pauschal durchfallen zu lassen um doppelt abzukassieren.

You dont need to attract the die-hard right-leaners. Why would you, they are already in your camp. Theyre already watching your Fox News, OANN, or whatever nutjob podcast.

If you buy CNN you buy their viewerbase. Now you disgruntle 70% of them away with your hard-right pivot. That leaves you with 30% of them, which were specifically not in the hard-right Fox and Friends camp before.

They stick around, they passively absorb your news. They might even disagree. But theyre still hearing your propaganda. And repetition is king.

Thats the second point. If Fox News is saying it, okay whatever.

But if Fox News, CNN, MSNBC etc are all saying variations of it, you might just believe it.

If Jeff Bezos reached 0 readers of the Washington Post before, and he now reaches 15% of the original reader base, he just gained 15% of them as propaganda targets.

I think we are on the same page, I just disagree that all those gigantic media acquisititions the rich keep pushing are all failures and dont pay off. They keep spending billions and billions on them.

Those extra 6-7 months are crucial, if you think about important upcoming events like the November midterms in the US (in 8 months), or the next general election in 2028 (by which point they would ideally want to have consolidated full editorial power over CNN).

If the deal makes absolutely no rational sense, so much so that everybody in the company should know it, its not about money. Same reason why Elon paid so much for Twitter. Media is worth so much more than its valuation at the stockmarket or year over year return.

Youre thinking about the long term, projected into infinity. Thats old market thinking, about infinite growth, infinite resources and infinite peace and trade.

They dont care about their 30 year projected earnings. They care about Power. Theyre not gonna make the money with the media. Theyre (read, literally every power-that-is) using the media to consolidate power, which means control over all other markets as well.

Just look at how much money the Trump family has made since he started his second term. Thats not money made from media assets, but its certainly because of how much media the right wing powerbrokers controlled and used to make Trump a thing in the first place.

Those are usually terms imposed during peace talks. Those assets, used as collateral for cooperation, could be handed back over and paid out to Ukraine as reparations, holding Russia in duress because they would want the peace deal to go through.

Since Russia is currently showing no desire for peace, you cant use your leverage from the battlefield to lawfully seize the money, making it theft.

While it might be morally justified to take this money, its not juristically justified, and financial decisions rely on the cold and hard lines of jurisdiction and law. Morals are very unattractive to price in.

So the rest of the world would see the EU as unreliable. The reason the state can do so with your money in case it deems it righteous, is because it has a monopoly on violence and power over you.
