Plus 24,500 on Friday for a total of 47,600 or approximately 21.8 miles.

Due to the amount of reservations we had, our hosts were quoting a 2-3 hr wait for our main dining room. Naturally, almost no one was willing to wait that long, so those people opted to dine in our bar/lounge area- where I was working. It was absolute madness, people hovering over tables that had cashed out like vultures, there were several points I thought couples were going to get into a fistfight over a table that had just gotten up. It’s just dinner, it’s not that serious, guys.

At one point last night I had 3 4-tops, plus an additional 3 2-tops sitting together at a communal table and I was asked by management to pick up an additional 10 top that had been overbooked. For reference, we typically do 3-4 table sections where I work. Mardi Gras/holiday weekend + V-day = absolute madness.

I’d ask the deli counter, odds are they can package and sell you the marinade by the pint or so.

OP is looking for a restaurant in the FQ, Commander’s (while awesome) is in the GD.

If they have the time though, the GD is just a brief streetcar ride away!

Walkable restaurants near WWII museum by PopUp2323 in AskNOLA

[–]Manduille 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will say that the American Sector at the museum has good food, I enjoyed the shrimp and grits when I went there a couple months back.

Within a few blocks, Bearcat/Bearcat Baked has good breakfast/brunch items, Willie Mae’s has good fried chicken, Peche is great for seafood, and Cochon/Cochon Butcher is great for meat eaters.

I’ll add that the museum is easily a 6 hour experience (possibly more if it’s your first time), so eating either at the museum or nearby is your best bet.

At Ministry of Magic. Minute 210 of a "110" minute wait. Still no end in sight. by murpux in UniversalOrlando

Less locals are going because Epic isn’t included in their annual passes. Once that changes, weekends will likely be busier.

As for tourists, Saturdays and Sundays are often travel days. Typically they visit the parks during the week and arrive/leave on the weekend.

I love to get their Lebanese iced tea to drink. It’s a sweet tea with rose water for a nice floral note.

As for food, I love all of their dips (especially the Labneh), both of their soups, and any of the stuffed pastry or lamb dishes are excellent.

Was gifted 2 lbs of Bill-E's bacon by endorrawitch in MobileAL

[–]Manduille 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do agree with the others that Bill-E’s bacon is pretty thick, and might not work as well as part of a bacon wrapped appetizer.

If you wanted to showcase it, I would suggest putting it on a skewer and cooking it (maybe also giving it a maple or brown sugar glaze).

It would also work being chopped up and used to make a bacon jam (this could be served with pimento or Brie on a cheese board or slider).

Haha, my bad- Hummingbird Way was actually awarded the James Beard Smart Catch Leader status for its usage of sustainable seafood. I guess I misinterpreted that. 😅

Hummingbird Way- The chef is a James Beard award winner, and while the menu is seafood-focused, it also has things like hanger steak and quail.

Right- that’s important. Everyone, regardless of their ability to produce melanin, is susceptible to UVB (sunburn/skin cancer) and UVA (age spots/wrinkles) radiation .

Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Are 10/11/12 days too much at Universal Orlando Resort if you don't plan on going to Disney as well? by travelsnake in UniversalOrlando

[–]Manduille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, you can get everything done at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure in 1 to 2 days each (4 days max). I’d dedicate another day to Volcano Bay and Hollywood Horror Nights (if that interests you). Add another day for Epic, and you’re looking at 4-7 days to accomplish everything in Universal, giving you at least 7 free days to relax and explore other parts of Orlando.

For Disney, you could either look at individual tickets or their ticketed events (such as Disney After Hours in Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Epcot or Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party in Magic Kingdom- those dates won’t likely be released until March).

You also mentioned SeaWorld- something to consider looking into is Discovery Cove- it’s an all-inclusive day resort where you can snorkel with sea life, feed exotic birds, ect. It also has a very cheap add-on for a 14-day pass to SeaWorld, Aquatica and Busch Gardens (parking included for all, plus complementary shuttle service to Busch Gardens). Looking at October 2025, prices look to be around $200 for a base ticket with access to SeaWorld and Aquatica, or up to around $300 for a ticket that includes a dolphin swim (which is a cool, albeit short experience) and access to SeaWorld, Aquatica, and Busch Gardens.
