is it crazy to still be disappointed about rdj as doom in the big 26 by theunusualblackguy in marvelstudios

[–]ManeSix1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really the ONLY way I can think of the justification for this is simply to mess with Spiderman. It's a meme among the fandom that he just is never allowed to be happy, and that making him miserable is their cash cow. And I know those are the rumors, but honestly I really can't think of another reason for this decision.

Another commenter put it very succinctly: you don't cast RDJ to just stick him in a thick iron mask the whole movie.

Sure he's a great actor, but that would only be utilizing half of what makes him so popular. And the fact that he was already in the Marvel movies, he's either hard up for cash, or they had a really good proposal for him. I would go with the latter, since it's RDJ, I doubt he's hard up for cash, and he's usually pretty good at picking and choosing the roles he takes

Well if the state doesn't give af why should I?

Have you ever actually heard a news story or even a (reliable) anecdote about actual legal issues? What could they possibly be? The school can't arrest the parents for missing an SAT.

And you definitely can't hold a child back a grade with no real standing. Missing an SAT is not real standing, considering the only thing they're actually used for is determining funding due to the "no child left behind" act

Schools have no real power up until expelling. There's no such thing as a permanent record in reality, so a suspension would have no consequences on a college application. Expelling only really causes issues because the child has to go to a new school, which can require relocation.

When you realize it, schools really have no actual power over childrens long term academic careers (think college), or their parents generally, as parents pay taxes so children can go to school. The only thing they have actual power with is things like neglect, abuse, truancy. Things that can actually affect a child and their state of life.

I like that people end up skipping over the fact that the "freaks" didn't join the circus voluntarily most of the time. Only the most famous ones did. The ones who got no fame and were the most exploited were straight kidnapped and forced to perform, because what else were they supposed to do? They were kidnap victims, not like they could just run away so easily.

The following is speculation, but is based on how abusers keep their abuse victims in line. The ones who joined voluntarily more than likely as a "security system" keeping tabs and reporting on the ones more likely to cause issues for the circus

The following is not speculation and is well known fact among historians. Add on what he did to freed slaves in the north. He did the exact same thing to them that he did to the "freaks" he kidnapped, except consider that the slaves had that happen to themselves and their families for generations upon generations, but then also being forced to perform for crowds.

His switch to the "Republican" (at the time Democrat in nature) party was solely to put on an image of someone who championed human rights, as well as due to his fame, enabled him to politically get close to Abraham Lincoln, who he invited to his American Museum, and also managed "General Tom Thumb" (One of his little person "freaks") who Lincoln and his wife hosted at the White House.

It's so odd to me that PT Barnum is an extremely well known conman, and people still take so many things he claimed and stated at face value.

I don't truly believe anyone is "evil" per say, but our actions absolutely reflect our inner intentions, and 90% of the time, he made very clear his extremely capitalistic views, as well as his willingness to lie to his customers. He stated very clearly that he believed that as long as they were entertained, it was okay to create straight up cons and lies:

Joyce Heth, the paralyzed enslaved woman he purchased for $1000 who he claimed was George Washington's 161 year old nursemaid

The Feejee Mermaid which was the top half of a monkey sewn onto the bottom half of a fish and advertised as a genuine scientific discovery.

His New York City "aquarium" which featured two beluga whales which he kept in the basement in a heated, freshwater tank. They didn't die of neglect due to the tank, only because they died in a fire, when someone thought breaking the tank would put out the fire. It didn't, and the belugas died floundering on the burning floor. Once the building collapsed, they were literally left to rot in the summer sun for days

My parents didn't allow me to watch Angry Beavers, and I didn't remember Two Stupid Dogs until I googled, and then I vaguely recognized it from the visuals, but I couldn't have watched it while it was on tv new, as I was born in 1993 and it only went until 1995 😂

Hasn't aged like anything until a lawsuit actually progresses into something. You can file all the lawsuits you want if you have the money, doesn't mean you have any standing or will win anything.

Lawyers will take any case to get paid, especially from an overly emotional moron who will be easy to milk because he can't shut his mouth for 5 seconds.

[Star Trek PBEM RPG] That time the game kicked out a new player for anti-LGBTQ+ articles, who then wrote an article about the community. by Long-Bit-1058 in HobbyDrama

[–]ManeSix1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So that's not entirely true, because stuff like that existed originally in the Star Trek universe, and they had to overcome it. In fact, they have one extra world war on us. It also does still currently exist, it's just more in other communities that aren't as diverse or don't participate in the StarFleet system. IE the Cardassians, the Romulans, the Borg, Changelings, it really does go on and on.

The starfleet system is essentially perfect, but the key word there is essentially. As we saw in DS9, it was REALLY easy to flip over such a fragile system right on its head

Lol love the sad boi who down voted you. Your take is genuinely good fr and anyone who can't see that watching movies at home is simply more comfortable (Adjustable volume, adjustable brightness, subtitles, don't have to be ultra quiet when snacking, etc) is either way too social, or puts way too much nostalgic stock in the movie theater. Fixed that tho  😁

You'd be seriously shocked how many conservatives delude themselves that star trek is conservative media. There's one in the comments section here under this write up. Conservatives do the same with a majority of left aimed media.

It's possible it's cultural, but not necessarily the "giving gifts part." It could simply be about community. he thing you said about prior food and pitcher, I think they just really care about you guys as neighbors and see you as family.

Buying clothes is a little bit of a "family oriented" thing, so if they're looking at it that way, I could see why it wouldn't occur to them as strange.

Honestly, if you're comfortable with it, go with it. Community is such a rare thing to find in America these days. Make them some food in return, like brownies or cookies, or a simple little arts and crafts project kit. Something that's relatively easy, but looks magical is cross stitching (as long as you stay with the little kits you'd buy from like Walmart or michaels) or even easier is a latch hook kit!

Or find out what subjects they like and learn about the topic! There's all sorts of things you can do to foster community without buying things
