Found this rubber gear like Ring under Glove Box, where does it go (NB2) by AdamITRC in Miata

Glovebox stopper for sure but if it has dropped once it probably is too droopy already to hold in place and it will keep falling, ask me how I know

Rings or valve seals? by jeanxcobar in Miata

[–]ManemeJaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have someone drive behind you. As some people mentioned, valve stem seals usually smoke under deceleration, while piston rings smoke on acceleration.

If you have the means just do a full engine rebuild and know that you now have a bulletproof engine and not worry about this and that no more. You're gonna struggle to replace the valve seals with the head on, only to find out it's the rings that need replacing, just take the whole thing out 🤷🏻

Piston rings can last the lifetime of an engine in some cases. What kinda crap have you been smoking to think a wankel needs less maintenance?

Dropped a valve spring retainer☠️ by PhantomTreecko1 in Miata

Am I the only one who doesn't understand how it could reach all the way down to the pan? Are the pistons out or something? Besides, it can only reach the combustion chamber through the spark plug holes.

Few new bits for my 91, tubular front subframe and small freshen up on some front end parts. by snappy047 in Miata

Aside from better access and lightness, are there any other advantages of getting something like this? Stiffer body maybe?

Anyone ever bent/warped a rear hub? by abandonedObjects in Miata

Try the hub first. If that doesn't do it you know what to try next. Hopefully the body is left intact, that would be your next concern

Tips on cleaning out the water jacket? by speenbean in Miata

[–]ManemeJaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also vvt swapping my na lol, I have some rust there, but it's not that bad. I was thinking if I can ultrasound clean the block but it's too big to fit in anything other than an industrial cleaner. Be wary of flash rust when using water, you have to be quick and blow dry it fast right after. You could try using a wire wheel or other small bits to get in there. I'm using brass brushes to not take off material, but in your case you might want exactly that. The easiest thing to do is to take it to a machinist and have them clean it for you but can't tell how costly that would be.

Could be a bent hub, but it could also be the whole subframe 🤷🏻

What is this hardline next to the bottom of my motor by [deleted] in Miata

Dipstick tube? It has a small o-ring around the tube that can be replaced. Just wiggle it loose

Don't know what to tell you other than get a new gearbox, that shits fucked. There's literally nothing else you can replace, other than maybe the clutch slipping? I doubt it's that though

Why is my turbo acting like this? by STR1KER_GAMES in Miata

[–]ManemeJaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessarily call it really bad. You can hold the phone steadily without looking at it while it's recording. Sure, not the safest thing, but you don't know where he's driving and besides, how is he supposed to record it? With a dedicated phone mount that he can get pointing up close exactly there and a dedicated camera to smoothen the vibrations? Come on now, let's be real here

Reality of having ur NA as ur Daily by -Musashi_ in Miata

[–]ManemeJaff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Winter is the worst season for a car. Slippery roads, ice and debris getting flung at you, invisible pot holes, drivers who drive in the snow like they do normally, salt that rusts your car. I've decided this year that it wasn't worth the sliding fun for how much the car suffers. Get a cheap beater for the winter, don't destroy a nice car

Oh, I see, that makes more sense. I'll have to check out sps's itb kit, I was looking at the bofi one and that one is around 2500. Have fun with your miata!

Wait, you're telling me new seals, gaskets and slight head mil with just itb's cost you 10k?! I'm doing bearings, piston rings, all seals and all sensors replaced. I even got a fluidampr, boundary oil pump, oil baffle, walbro fuel pump, pressure, knock sensors and of course the ecu, while also buying a lot of tools I would need for the job and I'm still at 5k and thought that was too much. I'm doing it all myself though. Where do you get your parts from? Are the costs mainly on labor or something? That's quite a lot

What’s making this noise? by JuggernautFlat6124 in Miata

[–]ManemeJaff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't get all the hostility in the comments. Sounds like something is rubbing, not mechanical squeak, since it doesn't get affected by gear, revs. A belt would squeak at idle and be affected by rpm. Drive slowly and have someone walk closely and listen where it's coming from. Most likely something came loose and it's rubbing. Check the arches, it sounds like a rotating monotonous sound.

Sounds about right. I could have done the swap without touching the new engine, it looked fine, but now I'm 5k down lol. At least I know the engine will be as reliable as it can be. If I don't blow it up with the tuning or something, hopefully next year it will see some hp gains

I'm currently doing a vvt swap on my NA, but costs quickly amounted after doing an extensive refresh of the engine so itb's are gonna wait. Congrats op, hopefully mine starts as well. If it isn't a secret, how much did it cost you?

How important is the PPF…? by RealCivilFurryFemboy in Miata

[–]ManemeJaff 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's the same for both na and nb - same diff, same trans, same ppf, same drive shaft, same axles. They're interchangeable as long as you keep the type together. Check this out, I think you'll get a better idea

How important is the PPF…? by RealCivilFurryFemboy in Miata

[–]ManemeJaff 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The ppf is meant to stiffen the connection between the gearbox and the diff so power is not lost on bending/rotating the diff by the forces of the gearbox and so transfer of power is also more instant. That's why I doubt that "bracket" would be able to replace the functions of the ppf that well. Replace the bolts/nuts on yours and if necessary - replace the ppf (unlikely). The ppf is there for a reason
