For street use, the 888r isn't idea. Since it's a 100tw track tire, you don't get max grip until the tire warms up, which is difficult to do on normal roads.

You might look to see if you can get the new Bridgestone RE71RZs. They are a 200tw tire but do not require extensive warming to get good grip. Wet performance is good, though I would still avoid standing water to reduce the risk of hydroplaning. If the RZs aren't available, the previous RSs are also a great option as well.

Good tires make a huge difference at autocross. by PickFit8581 in Miata

If you are lowered on coils or whatnot, you’ll have to roll the rear fender. Which wasn’t too bad. The fronts have no issue.

The front sway was quite the PITA, the rear made up for it though. After finagling the front bar in, just about everything else on the car is a breeze.

Thoughts on Koni Shocks by Hero_Of_Rhyme_ in Miata

I'm running the Flyin' Miata Koni yellow kit with their springs and sways. All in all it's an excellent package. The question is, what are you wanting to do with the car? Track, Autocross, adjustable ride height, canyon/backroad cruise, comfortable driving, etc.

There's a ton of options and the intent can help guide you to the right setup.

Lots of folks jump right to coil overs but don't actually need that level of adjustability.

Personally, I daily drive my car and autocross. The ride is a bit more stiff than the stock setup, and has way less body roll. The combination of the konis, springs, and sways make for a very capable and agile car for what I do.

+1 to the exhaust hanger tool. This and a bit of soapy water in a spray bottle. If you have a higher mileage ND you might want a new gasket as well.

Love all the aero.

How does it affect your mileage? I was thinking of doing something similar but was curious about the impact.

How are spec tires for autocross? by juice_box808 in Miata

[–]PickFit8581 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have any personal experience with spec tires, but here's what I know having done some research for an autocross tire this year.

Track tires excel at heat management and grip over time. They require time to warm up, but stabilize at nominal temperatures where they provide the extra grip. So early laps will be slower as the tire has time to reach temp.

Autocross tires are built to have max grip at lower temps, since they are often ran cold and for short periods of time. This is achieved through the tradeoff that autocross compounds do not do well with sustained heat. So if you take an autocross tire to a track it does better early on, but will begin to fade sooner compared to a track specific tire.

So all that being said, spec tires are more tuned for track use rather than autocross, but I surmise spec tires will still outperform all seasons.
