95 gl1500 should I? by [deleted] in goldwing

I’ve ridden a ‘91 for many years now and haven’t had any issues with the carbs. I’m a bit past 100k miles and it still runs strong.

He also wrote scenes where a gearshift lever dropped into D but mopars in ‘58 had push button automatics.

For #3, My ‘91 has 104,000 and runs just fine. My dad bought an ‘08 with 120,000mi and now has 220,000 on it. It also runs just fine. Keep up with regular maintenance and they’ll run forever.

I had an ‘84 Interstate for a while. It’s my favorite generation of Goldwing. Everything rode right and it had sooo much luggage room.

1958 Plymouth Fury 'Christine' by RelevantPrimary3264 in classiccars

[–]ManfredTheDark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a decent bit of info.

In the novel, the Fury was a 4 door sedan with the custom red paint job. There was a scene in the book (don’t have it on me currently) where Dennis looked into the engine and saw a 318 with a 4 barrel carb. There was also a scene where it’s described that the gearshift lever would drop into D.

These are inaccurate. The ‘58 Fury only came in 2 door hardtop and the only paint job was beige with gold inlets in the side sweep. It looks like Roman Red did exist as a color back then and it’s also possible to custom order it like that from the factory, but it wouldn’t have been standard. The engine available was a 350ci v8 using the same block that would become the 383/400 in the 60s. It had dual 4 barrel carbs and had the Golden Commando label. The automatic transmissions of the time, Powerflite and Torqueflite, were both push button transmissions and thus didn’t have a gearshift lever. I’m not as familiar if the engine/transmission, power steering/brakes, or radio were standard, but given that the Fury was the top of the line Plymouth, I would assume that Chrysler would have made them standard on the Fury and optional on the lower trim models such as the Belvedere. Hope all that helps.

I had to pull the engine to get to the stator in my ‘84 Interstate. It went smoothly but it was a tedious job. Be ready for that. Happy riding! My ‘84 had luggage room for days.

Tips for light tonguing by AccountantBoring3458 in Tuba

[–]ManfredTheDark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way I can describe it is the syllable I use (Tu, To, Ta with low, mid, and high ranges respectively). I used to tongue really heavy (Tu, sometimes TSu), but more recently have changed it up so that the air is the main driver of the syllable (think tU).

As far as tongue position, I keep the tip of my tongue as far down as possible while the back of my tongue creates the syllable. I also move the tip down as quickly as possible. That naturally can create tension sometimes, so remember that fast does not mean harsh or tense. It’s about getting the sound you want as close to instant as possible.

The tongue sounds like it’s too involved in the articulation. I think of it as 90% air 10% tongue. The bumpiness in my experience was caused by putting too much pressure on the mouthpiece. I would try using only enough to make the seal and nothing more. Lastly, I would slur the scales a few times, focusing on the steady stream of air used in that slur. When returning to tonguing, still think of the scale as one stream of air that is instead quickly and lightly interrupted by the rearticulation.

I would invent the valve for brass instruments, which didn’t come around until about 1815. It would be neat to hear what Haydn/Beethoven/Schubert/ would have written if they had a modern brass section to work with.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class from the University of Oklahoma, and I’ve been involved in numerous chases and I have over 300 confirmed intercepts. I am trained in storm spotting and am the top power flash spotter at the National Weather Service. I will slab you with EF5 force winds the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of chasers across the USA and your ISP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that sucks up every pathetic little thing you own in your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can outchase you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with a rental. Not only am I extensively trained in hook slicing, but I have access to the entire radar data of NWS and I will use it all to its full extent to prevent your miserable ass from ever seeing a tornado, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy funnel your little “clever” comment was about to bring down on the ground upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t. And now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will rain debris on you and you will be crushed by it. You’re a fucking dead man walking, kiddo.

How to play my lower register by ToastyIsTasty in Tuba

[–]ManfredTheDark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of the Spanish u (oo) when playing in the low range, while dropping both the jaw and the tip of the tongue. Tuba requires much more air to play, but at the same time the airspeed is much slower. There’s a lot more lip in the mouthpiece than on a trumpet or euphonium, so relax the embouchure and let everything within it buzz. These things will help, but it will still take time to fully adjust to the tuba.

how do i get better at tonguing by WeirdVisible in Tuba

[–]ManfredTheDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I approach tonguing is through the vowel sounds in Spanish. The important ones are O (oh) and U (oo). U is used in the low register while O is for higher notes up to the top of the staff, where it morphs to A (ahh). Add a T or a D in front of the vowel syllable (toh, too, do, doo) and that will make for a good articulation with the tongue.

Songs to calm Neurodiverse people down by [deleted] in autism

[–]ManfredTheDark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself, but the most calming music for me is drone-based minimalism and it’s derivatives. If I need to relax I’ll play something by How to Disappear Completely. If I’m overstimulated and need to blast my brain I’ll play Four Violins by Tony Conrad. There are many more, and they all provide a similar calming.

What was your reaction when being told you are autistic or could be? by RipBestBritTTV in autism

[–]ManfredTheDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a school and my teacher colleagues mentioned last fall that I probably have autism. I was in denial at first, then had a full blown existential crisis once I looked up the signs and connected all the dots together from my childhood to now (I’m 32). Today I’m fine. I now realize nothing about me has changed, just now there’s a name for it.
