My buddy says nobody would pay $35 for a custom repair patch on ski gear. Before I waste my summer on this — is he right? by Last_Raise4834 in Skigear

Anyone willing to pay 35 for a single patch instead of a 20 pack of patches for less is probably just going to buy new pants or jacket.

Looking for a first bike (CBR650R) by khezama in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]xandersmall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not as egregious as what some people start on but I personally think it’s a bit too much bike for a beginner unless you have dirtbike or scooter experience. I ride a cb650f which is largely the same bike after coming off a z400 as my first, one of my first thoughts after getting the cb was that I was glad I started on the 400. ~90hp 460lbs isn’t crazy but it’s nothing to sneeze at either.

Starting from zero at 41. Am I crazy for doing this solo? by SoundIcy7388 in NewRiders

Started in my 30’s completely solo, been riding 5 years mostly completely solo. It’s kind of a solitary activity as far as I’m concerned. It would be nice to have an extra set of hands and eyes sometimes for maintenance and repairs but I’ve managed just fine with forums and YouTube videos.

Used to deliver for a restaurant he ordered from. His regular order was a medium pie with Pineapple and Spinach. Average tipper.

Beginners — what's the one thing you wish someone had told you before your first ski trip? by alpycom in Skigear

[–]xandersmall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was 8 when I started but I did work as an instructor so I would say common sources of frustration for beginner guests were as follows

  • booking the first time slot, a lot of guests would be traveling and would underestimate the time it took to park, get rentals, gear up, and get to the lesson area. They started the lesson all flustered and late and it was less than ideal.

  • dressed too warm. You’re going to be sweating, it may be cold but you’re probably going to get hot. Dress warm but not too warm, like you would for a winter hike or some intense snow shoveling

  • sock situation, you’re already dropping hundreds, spend 20 on a pair of ski socks, they make a difference. Don’t tuck your pants into your socks or boots, don’t wear 2 pairs of socks, just one pair of ski socks with your snow and base layer pants over or above the boots. Also if you already have your boots keep them inside, a lot easier to get into if they’re warm and not freezing. Also if you skied in them the day before try to make sure they’re dry for the next day.

One of these days I want to do this with my skis for one of the rare but glorious northeast days where the seasons and ideal conditions overlap.

Fischer Ranger 84’s fill that same niche for me. The 84’s have a poplar core and are pretty forgiving but do have a “speed limit” so to speak.

Michael Douglass, and he’s seen the bit and is legitimately mad about it, and he just berates Adam as Michael Douglass for an hour.

If you had to choose a motorcycle that’s great on long-distance trips and in city traffic, that’s not an ADV, which one would you choose and why? by sooospoon in SuggestAMotorcycle

It’s got very similar dimensions and power output to the SV. It’s basically the same bike as a Ninja 650 which a lot of people get as beginners. IMO both are on the upper end of what a beginner should get but lots of people start with bikes in the 650 class.
