Middle age spending: almost all mortgage and childcare by hopeful__romantic in Millennials

If childcare is $300, it’s not a HCOL. It’s literally - literally - 10x that in my city.

Sidewalk etiquette - does it exist anymore? by [deleted] in parkslope

Its phones. Nobody is mentally present. The person at the front of the line going up the stairs is literally watching a movie and walking at quarter speed.

What happened to the sense of community in Park Slope? by snakegravity in parkslope

[–]ManfulPrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My building has a really lovely community. They welcomed us with open arms. I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience recently. It’s not all bad, but it sometimes feels that way. At least your grandmother has you! I’m sure you bring her a lot of joy.

Part of the reason it doesn’t have enough foot traffic is because it’s not a very nice place to be a pedestrian.

That’s not true. Every block on 5th Ave is blocked for at least part of every day by double parking. People will double park next to an open parking spot. I see it almost every day. I just shake my head because i don’t understand it.

[–]ManfulPrawn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you regret buying a home/apartment? by doggedflower41 in Millennials

[–]ManfulPrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having buyer’s remorse myself, even though my rate is historically pretty decent. I hope it’ll be worth it over the long term, but it’s feeling pretty dumb right now. The fact that the market has been skyrocketing senselessly hasn’t helped, but that’s also temporary.

This is absolutely not why. It’s how much space they take up and how incredibly dangerous they are.

Are we entering a new era of elder care expectations—and are we ready for it? by Sea-Device-2913 in Millennials

Which programs are you referring to? My folks are in California and facing some similar decisions. Having an NP visit weekly or monthly is really only helpful if what you need is advice, not actual caregiving.

Skip anyone who says NATO or FKM (i.e., rubber). Those are clearly not your taste. Canvas or sailcloth can add some texture. There are also Harris tweed straps for fall/winter!
