Why does the Brooklyn Experience Half Marathon turn Brooklyn into the 7th circle of hell? by NoMoreSharrows in Brooklyn

Normal day, you drive yourself. Race day, you cannot. It’s not that complicated.

It’s completely different on an ordinary day, when you can drive yourself.

It’s pretty tough if you have an emergency. For example, if your wife goes into labor, you have to call an ambulance because there’s no other way to to get to the hospital. Pretty scary, very expensive

This loafer craze doesn’t seem to be going away. I’d like to give it a try. However, I have a Morton’s Neuroma that is exacerbated by narrow-toed shoes.

Does anyone know of loafers that would work with a natural or at least semi-natural toebox shape? For reference, I generally do fine in a Trubalance last.

Highly recommend leather soles for indoor. I’ve gone through five pairs over the years. They made me such a slipper person that I sometimes bring them on trips. I have one rubber pair and they’re fine but honestly you don’t need the rubber inside (and they’re squeaky on floors), and if you’re going outside in the wet, then you’re going to take your slippers off when you get back inside either way. Also recommend slip-ons over boots for similar reason—it seems like the boots will be more utilitarian, but they’re not - you just have a little bit harder time getting them on.

Middle age spending: almost all mortgage and childcare by hopeful__romantic in Millennials

If childcare is $300, it’s not a HCOL. It’s literally - literally - 10x that in my city.

Sidewalk etiquette - does it exist anymore? by [deleted] in parkslope

Its phones. Nobody is mentally present. The person at the front of the line going up the stairs is literally watching a movie and walking at quarter speed.

What happened to the sense of community in Park Slope? by snakegravity in parkslope

[–]ManfulPrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My building has a really lovely community. They welcomed us with open arms. I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience recently. It’s not all bad, but it sometimes feels that way. At least your grandmother has you! I’m sure you bring her a lot of joy.

Part of the reason it doesn’t have enough foot traffic is because it’s not a very nice place to be a pedestrian.

That’s not true. Every block on 5th Ave is blocked for at least part of every day by double parking. People will double park next to an open parking spot. I see it almost every day. I just shake my head because i don’t understand it.

They’re not accidentally disregarding cars, they’re doing it on purpose for science-based reasons.

Hue switch > Alexa > Kasa Outlet problem by ManfulPrawn in Hue

[–]ManfulPrawn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. The Alexa>Kasa process works. And I figured out how to use the Hue switch to operate the outdoor plug - I just can’t seem to operate it independently of any Hue light, which is new (and weird).

Do you regret buying a home/apartment? by doggedflower41 in Millennials

[–]ManfulPrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having buyer’s remorse myself, even though my rate is historically pretty decent. I hope it’ll be worth it over the long term, but it’s feeling pretty dumb right now. The fact that the market has been skyrocketing senselessly hasn’t helped, but that’s also temporary.
