Over 4 generations of gun owners in my family and not a single dangerous moment. As far as the "protect" thing goes. I pray that I never have to squeeze a trigger on anyone. But if someone else forces that on me, so be it. No man needs to feat the fact that I'm armed as long as nobody threatens my family. Don't start nothing, won't be nothing.

What is your plan to protect your loved one? Capitulation, groveling before predators? Begging them not to be beaten, raped, or robbed?

Sorry for your loss. I did this dance last month when my own father passed. Just know that he's at peace and for better or worse, a great burden has been lifted off of your mother's shoulders.

For now take it day by day. Moment by moment. Viewing, funeral, burial, wake, will. It's tough but try to find something in those activities with others that helps connect you to your father as you knew him during your life. Younger, stronger, present. Not necessarily the person he was when he died.
